These duo amassed properties more than 1500 crores (official figure) and killed more than 100 people . The primary question is are these staged encounters/lapses legal?
Rule of law dictates every criminal should get a chance to be heard.
Consider 2 cases - Nirbhaya gang rape case, process of law took long before capital punishment was given ( the accused exhausted every remedy available to them to try to delay the case)
There was another rape case where the perpetrators were shot dead in an "fake encounter" by police
Society would prefer this quick justice over the first one
But us humans being rational beings (i hope so most are) know that the latter would bring many problems with it.
Rule of law's primary motto is that even if 100 accused go scot free no innocent should be punished, that's the primary gist of it.

In the current case the accused will receive no sympathy they were mafia turned corrupt politicians were hundreds of cases registered against them, this guy's son was killed like a day or two ago after he shot dead a lawyer, that encounter was well deserved.
This current one i have mixed feelings in as in looking at it the rule of law way.
