More than 70 Hindu families from Maungdaw of Myanmar have fled to Bangladesh through a border in Ukhia of Cox’s Bazar amid attack by an “unidentified armed group”.

Around 412 people of different ages of the community entered Bangladesh territory along with Rohingyas yesterday through Rezu Amtola border and took shelter in a makeshift tent at Paschim Hindupara of Katupalong, reports our correspondent visiting the spot.

The Hindu refugees said unidentified people with firearms, bombs, and knives besieged their villages on August 25, when a group of insurgents carried out attacks on Myanmar security forces.

he people, wearing black cloth and black veil, surrounded Fakira Bazar, Riktapara and Chikonchhari villages till yesterday and "killed some 86 people of the community", they claimed.

“My husband Kanu Rudro went to visit our son-in-law’s house at Fakirabazar. But they [unidentified armed men] killed all of them [Kanu, his daughter, and son-in-law],” wailed Bakul Bala Rudru.

Another victim, Niranjan Rudru from Chikonchhari of Maungdaw told The Daily Star that some people, wearing black cloth, besieged the villages and set fire to the Hindu houses.

“There was no name or number on their black cloth. But they were carrying guns, bombs and knives,” he recalled while narrating the reasons for fleeing to Bangladesh.

They said one or two Hindu children remain missing while crossing the border with Rohingya refugees.

“We have been living in Burma for many generations. We are Burmese Hindu,” said Chittya Ranjan Paul, who crossed the border also and entered Katupalong around 5:30pm yesterday.

His identify card issued by the Myanmar government introduced him as “Indian”, said our correspondent.

Meanwhile, aid workers were found enlisting the names of the Hindu refugees while local Hindu community people came forward to provide them food and shelter.

“We are collecting money from our people with the instruction of our community leader to provide them with food and accommodation,” said Swapan Sharma Rony, a resident of Katupalong village.

Like your "correspondents" have any credibility and neutrality on the matter? :D

412 out of 30,000+.....ouch what a ratio....but good enough equivalency for BBS style people (just like 1 drop rule used among KKK supremacists and nazi nuremberg laws - after all...all propaganda dependent leftists are the same).

Not surprised. People in Myanmar probably don't like outsiders.
Rohingyas are not outsider in Arakan. They are an indigenous people of Arakan along with Rakhaine community. It is the Burmese people who are outsider in Arakan. Arakan was never part of Myanmar until British conquer that areas and joined it with than British Burma for administrative purpose.

Deportation move of Rohingya refugees challenged in India
Star Online Report

Two Rohingya refugees have moved India’s Supreme Court challenging the decision to deport them back to Myanmar, where they faced persecution, on various grounds including that such a move is in violation of international conventions.

The Indian apex court today agreed to hear the petition, filed by the Rohingya migrants, on Monday a plea challenging the decision to deport illegal Rohingya Muslim immigrants back to Myanmar, on various grounds including that it violated international human rights conventions, reports our correspondent from New Delhi.

A Supreme Court bench, comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, considered the submissions of lawyer Prashant Bhushan that the plea required urgent hearing in view of the decision of the government to send Rohingyas back to their native land.

India’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had issued notice to the Indian government on August 18 over its plan to deport the Rohingya immigrants who are residing in different states and cities of the country.

The Rohingyas, who fled to India after violence in the Western Rakhine province of Myanmar, have settled in Jammu, Hyderabad, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and its adjoining areas and Rajasthan.

India’s Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju had said in Parliament on August 9 that according to available data, more than 14,000 Rohingyas, registered with the UNHCR, were staying in India.

He had said that around 40,000 Rohingyas were staying in India illegally.

In a communication to all states, the Indian Home Ministry had said the rise of terrorism in the last few decades has become a serious concern for most countries as illegal migrants are prone to getting recruited by terrorist outfits.

The federal Indian government has directed the governments in states to set up a task force at district level to identify and deport illegally-staying foreign nationals.

Lol, you don't get it do you? To the Burmese, all of them are "kalar" whether they are Hindu or Muslim. Around the second World war, xenophobia in Burma was its highest just like today. British Indians used to be an elite business community and formed the majority in urban areas before the Japanese invasion. Most fled the Japanese, but some left after the war after having their business nationalized. My Great Grandfather had a rubber business in Rangoon as well.

The difference today is that the Rohingya aren't an elite immigrant community that's being persecuted, but rather poor farming and fishing people with centuries of history in the Arakan region, which makes their suffering even worse. Even if you're a bigoted Bhakt, I'm sure even someone with a drop of humanity would feel somewhat sorry for them, if not sympathize.

Does not your Hindu gods order you to side with
persecuted Hindus against Buddhists?

Karma will be a bitch otherwise.

Hindu or Muslim all are Rohingya in Arakan. They are our blood brothers. They should unitedly work to repulse the Burmese invasion of their motherland Arakan. BD govt should unofficially organize and equip the Arakan Freedom Fighters and train them by the BGB Jawans, who excel in light weapons. This should be done before the Myanmar army expel or kill all the Rohingyas.

Not surprised. People in Myanmar probably don't like outsiders.
Calling em outsiders is like calling all of non native Americans.... not Americans.

The issue has more to do with ethnicity then religious differences.
Would they behave the same if these hindus looked east asian?
Well in that case rohyngas look mongoloid, Dravidian.... very much a mix of southern bengalis and native Burmese.

Thailand wants to give em shelter and they have to go back when situation cools down... then what? Rohyngas will become Thai because Burma said so?
