High-speed train (200km/h) planned for Dhaka-Chittagong route at an estimated cost of 6 billion USD

Good god....that looks amazing.

Main one is full of sh!t with Hasina bashing.

On topic......this is a good initiative.

Hopefully it will be done by 2030. And it is fine, if it gets done by 2030. 200km/hisn't exactly bullet train...but for BD it surely iis. BD is small. So it wouldn't need a 400km/h trains....although I wish I could see a maglev operating in BD before my death.

It is where I do bulk of my discussion on this project though (that thread)....please have a read (I support this project in theory) and see if you have anything to add. Just ignore the politics stuff.

Why it seems every project in Bangladesh cost many times more than its regional neighbours. From road to bridges , railway evrrything costs in billions usd.

This is mainly because of the high population density. Corruption is also a major factor.

Its because we need to import every raw materials including stone chips. Besides we dont have free land and govt has to buy every inch of it for 3 times the market price. We also have import duty for construction machineries including vehicles for transportation. Everything adds up. Besides quality of construction is also getting demanding in the recent projects.

On top of the issues these two have mentioned, there is also a lot more corruption inside BD.

Also when you do major projects for first time, you have to pay a lot more in consultancy, hand-holding etc (think of start up costs for a business) and high start up bribes etc....whereas regional peers have the capacity developed and economies of scale to utilise...they are just chugging along etc
