Here is why CPEC never reached its full potential

The guy is partially wrong here. The sea route is cheaper no doubt about it however a train route is even more cheaper.

It was not about good transit or transport but its about transfer of low end manufacturing to other countries like Pakistan and to develop western China ...
Except for the sole exception of right now, with too many goods to ship by sea and not enough ships/containers/port capacity, it is always cheaper to ship things by ship instead of train.

This is why China exports most goods to Russia by sea instead of by rail.

CPEC was meant to give pakistanis infrstruture to work things out

Instead pakistanis thought they would do nothing and will earn money

Motorways internet and power is essential for exports and development

However doing these without develping a single economoc zone will mean bad news

So we did those and now we have unused motorways, and unused power
PTI govt realized that and are develpoing zones but its too late..5-10 years are needed to completely fynctionlaize zons

Second we dont have coastal population

We arent using our coasts

China built four new cities on coast that became their 50% economy

We just built gawadar that too still not connectes

Instead we should have built gaddani, pasani, omara and ket bandar all simultaneously providing FREE land to industries
We should have built coastal power coal plants rsther then inland coal plants

Here is what I think about CPEC. Pakistan & China seems to have deliberately kept their intentions hidden. They only projected the Gwader port & Transit trade to China aspects of CPEC in the lime light.

In fact the future of CPEC project would be decided by the success (or failure) of nine industrial zones + one free zone (at least) + connectivity to Central Asia. I noticed that Pakistani authorities do not talk up the industrial zones too much while talking to international media. Even the name of three companies which are now operating from Gwader Free-Zone are being kept confidential.

So either international media does not know about industrial zones side of CPEC (less likely) or they focus solely on infrastructure side of the CPEC & associated debt to keep any potential investors away from setting-up industrial projects in those industrial zones.

i stopped reading at "in shipping the cheapest way between any two points is by sea" that's not correct in all circumstances, sorry sir you are in my opinion not correct. Among other things, when you calculate costs what would time? isn't that of any importance?

And there is way more to CPEC and Gawadar than meets the eye, the geo-political scenario is rapidly changing, we never would have thought that we will say Russians and Pakisani's will be friends and will be working together?

Those industrial zones are 10 years late and just one in KPK is on since noone wants to give cheap land execpt the KPK one

What pakistan needs is 5 free zones with free land on 30 year lease in gaddani, keti bandar and omara ..all connected via a motorway to karachi or better a electric rail(all of these cities are within 200km of karachi) and all three developed in port cities

These should have been done before developing gawadar and pasni on same model

This is how china did it
Sure gawadar is great but we dont have the money to develop gawadar YET ..gawadar isnt fully connected yet

it was easier to develop gaddani(port qasim there already), ketibundar(more as tourism hub) and omara first as all are near karachi and to punjab

There is not gonna be much of transit trade between Pakistan & China under CPEC. There is no mention about this even on CPEC official website. There is no planned big highway or rail track between China & Pakistan to facilitate such transit trade from Gwader to China. Even when BRT buses were sent to Peshawar, those were shipped via sea to Karachi port & not through imaginary CPEC road between China & Pakistan.

But this is the main aspect that western media (CNBC, DW, CNN & BBC) focuses on and then tries to prove how CPEC is going to fail since such a transit trade is not feasible.

BS, that guy is a idiot. We already knew no one is going to use that route for trade with China. All that political BS of west or east route was unnecessary.

But CPEC brought end to power shortages, without it our GDP will not be growing like now. Good. The bad was we build too many of them too soon.

CPEC loans for motorways. Waste of resources. Any motorway which cannot be build with BOT shouldnt be build.

CPEC promised ML-1 railway line could be game changer but no work done yet. Should have started work on this instead of motorways but Nawaz had other ideas.

Gwadar is failed port unless Pakistan improve security situation drastically.

Overall CPEC was good for Pakistan. Motorways too eventually will start giving ROI. And they are nicest road to travel on no doubt.

Pls elaborate in which circumstances sea transport is expensive than Aerial or land transport.
On topic: The deal was sabotaged by PMLn and people in uniform who did not negotiate properly. For starters, Pakistani companies were not protected against Chinese contractors hence losing money and jobs to Chinese.
Chinese companies were exempted from tax so they could dump their produce in Pakistan resulting in Pakistani companies losing markets to Chinese.
