Gripen is a good platform for sure...I agree on that dear, but PAF think tank has something else in mind. JF-17 even with limited carry of weapon in comparison with Gripen for air defense and as a work horse of PAF & J-10 and F-16 for deep strike...

So no question of Gripen in PAF..

By the way, Rafale of French is good than Gripen for PAF as it is not prone to sanctions of US and French has guts to give support in an adverse situation by resisting the US pressure, but they price it more...

I don't know in which sense you said jf-17 carry limited weapons when compared to Gripen? in sense of weight or variety.
In both cases i tend to disagree with you .In case of weapons jf-17 can carry

1) SD-10 BVR (China)
2) PL-9C WVR (China)
3) PL-5E WVR (China)
4) AIM 9L/M WVR (US)
5) MAA-1A WVR (Brazil)
6) MAA-1B WVR (Brazil)
7) MAR-1 anti-radiation (Brazil)
8) C-802 anti-ship missile (China)
9) H-2 (Pakistan)
10) H-4 (Pakistan)
11) RAAD ALCM (Pakistan)
12) AM-39 Exocet Anti-ship missile
13) A-Darter WVR (South Africa /Brazil )

Note: PAF is interested in A-Darter missiles as i have posted the source and info in another thread you can check out that

And various other guided and un-guided bombs including
MK-82
MK-84
MATRA Durandal anti runway bomb (France)
LT-2 Laser guided (China)
LS6 satellite guided bomb (China)

So from where you can say that jf-17 can carry only limited kind of weapons

And in case of max take off weight,in current configuration Gripen's max take off weight is 14000 kg while of that jf-17 is 13000 kg so there is not much difference there

gripen is light weight fighter we have jf17 for that role and we need medium weight fighter likes of rafale eurofighter fc-20 su-35 mig-35 superhornet su-30 j11b these all are medium weight fighters so no need of gripen thanku verymuch

I didn't read the whole thread, but I hope someone mentioned external stores as they relate to RCS. Manufacturers almost always check RCS on a clean airframe, and some of them (like the F-16) can be remarkably low.

But hang ANYTHING on that airframe, even smaller missiles, and the RCS skyrockets.

It is mostly due to the fins on missiles and bombs. Even those little fins create reflective angles that can really boost a radar return. In air to air gunnery, we have a target called a "dart" that is made out of plywood, normally unable to track. But on the back is a tiny aluminum angled box about 20 cm across that is easily locked and tracked by radar. The same applies to external stores.

While the Gripen is a wonderful plane - but we already have Thunder that is as good as Gripen

If we are to get another plane it should be

a) J10B 150 planes option
b) J11 50 planes
c) Rafale 50 - planes from France if they give us next generation Submarines

The Gripen is mid to late 4 generation fighter. Generally ranked higher than both F16/52/60 & MIRAGE2000-5

Infact its in the same tech catagory as Rafael or Typhoon.
