Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that she will travel to Beijing in July at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Hasina revealed the information at a media briefing on her tri-nation tour of Japan, Saudi Arabia and Finland at Ganabhaban on Sunday.

It will be her first visit to China after forming government for a third consecutive term.

Xi extended felicitations to Hasina on her party's landslide victory in the 11th parliamentary elections held in December.

Addressing the media briefing, the prime minister said that Xi invited her to visit China in July. “I’ll go,” she said, adding that the dates of the tour are being worked on.

Bangladedesh and China embarked on a strategic partnership in 2016 during the visit of Xi Jinping. Bangladesh also joined his flagship Belt and Road Initiative, although China has backed Myanmar on the Rohingya refugee issue in the international forum.

With the bless from PDF anti-China posters! I don't think Bendians can gain much in China for their wannabe developed country.

She should strongly voice for the Uighurs and get a slap on her face!

BD will speak up for both displaced Rohingyas and also oppressed Uyghurs without any concern of what China thinks.

China has just as much to gain from BD as the other way round.

Want the 16-18 billion US dollars contract for the 2nd nuclear power station to be built by 2030?
Want a slice of the pie for the 3-4 billion US dollar contract to build 8 next-gen frigates by 2030?
If the answer to above 2 is yes, then realise that BD has no need to kow-tow to China and will always speak against Chinese complicity in crimes and abuses.

You actually believe this stuff?

Curious to see how this meeting will go following the last one in 2016. Would like to hear more infrastructure related agreements.

BD 's GDP is smaller than some Chinese cities, it's like nothing to Chinese economy, she comes to China on her own invitation maybe, with a begging bowl for sure.

Why not? China have vast and rich cities like Shanghai and Beijing. both of these two city have bigger GDP than Bangladesh. But they are each like 25 million people which serves as the biggest economic hub with best living standard in China. So it is normal that their GDP would be bigger than Bangladesh.

No, she is not going there uninvited. This report clearly says, Chinese president invited her to visit in July.

And looking for investment is not begging. If that was the case, then China would have been the biggest begging bowl in the world.

China used to beg for investment, that's true, now the table had been turned long time ago, others beg China. As BD's biggest investor, BD can kiss goodbye to its development without China's investment and world biggest market, as for China, with or without BD makes no difference at all.

What a patronizing tone, as if China was so desperate for that "16-18 billion dollar contract".

But, our great economist @UKBengali does not accept your view. He thinks the $10 trillion Chinese economies will collapse if only BD just refuses its $20 billion loans in the next ten years. This guy loves to spit to the sky. Is it a symptom of hallucination by Yaba? He loves to reverse effects with the cause.

Dude, BD will grow with or without Chinese investment.
Germany and USA are putting the finishing touches to a 3 billion US dollar investment.

You may not be concerned. But RESPONSIBLE people in China who care about contracts, they certainly are.

That is a pretty doofus attitude though...pushing away money, as if it didn't matter. :)

We are on the same page, I m all for cutting off all ties with BD. We really don't need each other.

You need more whatever countries that are willing to keep relation with China after Trump tighten screw on 250 Billion usd worth of export and another 300 billion usd is in the pipeline. How many Chinese will be jobless and how many factories will be shut down? Do you have any data?
