One is obviously the land and the people - land was supposed to join Pakistan because it was Muslim majority as per rules of partition. The human rights issues etc also play a role.

However, another reason why Pakistanis consider it so important - call it the jugular vein of Pakistan - is because most of the rivers of Pakistan flow through Kashmir.

The Indians have time and again threatened with stopping Pakistani's waters and are constructing dams there to do so.

Both countries are water stressed and with increasing populations - the strategic importance of the region continues to rise.

So the issue of Kashmir has other dimensions as well in addition to the 'moral' ones.

Pakistan gotta strengthen its power and try become a bigger player in its region and the Islamic World.

UAE sees Gwadar as a competition if it ever become a booming port. The Shiekhs are running out of oil and are trying to diversify their economy but seeing a new kid on block is making them think of their granddaddies and their suffering wondering around in the desert half naked.

Value? What value is it serving? How is it helping Pakistan? Kashmiris? Our Economy? Finance?

Frankly, one does expect more from TTs. More in the sense that it could bring insights, perspective and new angling to discussion... so that other posters would leave with a sense of learning something.
