What's new

Has Pak. been sidelined by the Indo-Afgh. Strategic Agreement?

2014 is 3 years away.. $hit load of stuff can happen in that much time... Plus, earlier it was supposed to be 2011,.. Innit?? Also the decision will really be left to the new govt in Washington, which I dont believe will be of Obama's.. So too many variables for the 2014 plan.. USA/NATO is not going to simply turn away from Afg this time around. Doing that last time caused them a boat load of pain.. They wont repeat the mistake...

The endgame is already set: the Taliban will come back into power post 2014, & Karzai's end fate will be a tragic one. The US has already started negotiating with the Taliban & the Haqqanis, taken their names off the UN blacklists, set up their offices in the UAE. India has no role or stake in the endgame in Afghanistan, so India is a non-factor. They are only a nuisance factor in Afghanistan right now because of the US & NATO troops there.

As if Pakistan has a lot of spare resources lying around to counter whatever India will surely try to invest!

I will be happy to admit it should that be the case. As things stand, the existing patterns of domination will continue for a few more decades still, at least.

More imperial hubris, Mr Cheng I totally understand.

The US in announcing a withdrawal date - has basically admitted defeat, the US Armed Forces are exhausted - you have guys doing their third and fourth tours, that is untenable.

The war has been lost, Obama is just man enough to admit it.

Taliban is more pro India than Pakistan.

What a bunch day dreamer few Pakistani posters are here.

I am gona puke.

I think there is more chance of Pakistan falling to the Talibs than Afghanistan in the current situation.

Given the enthusiasm of so many here for the Taliban, I am sure they are ready with the right lengths of beards and dresses that don't cover the ankles (takhnas).

Hiding in the West won't give a reprieve as well. They should be treated to the Taliban interpretation of Shariah wherever they live.

My friend, the end game in Afghanistan is not even known to Obama and Kiyani yet, and you claim to know it..

Having India (or its presence) in Afghanistan is like having the US/NATO in Afghanistan. The Taliban will not accept it, & then, India will be given a ride to the cleaners like the US/NATO Forces have been.

Yes, and the effective result would be the Pakistan will be all tied up to its west, and India can consolidate its hold on disputed areas even further with a much lesser level of opposition.

How will the effective result be Pakistan getting tied up to its west, when India will not even be in the picture in Afghanistan? The differences with Afghanistan will be reconciled, both countries will look after their own affairs, & all 'foreign influences' in Afghanistan will be driven out, including India.

Question for you. Why isn't India able to consolidate its hold on the disputed areas right now, when Pakistan is engaged fully on its Western border regions currently? The level of opposition for them cannot be any lesser for them than it is right now. After all, Pakistan had to take out some of its troops from the Eastern front to facilitate the current operations in the FATA region.

Karzai is the mayor of Kabul, 80% of Afghanistan is effectively controlled by the Taliban, & negotiations are taking place to bring them back into power. What Karzai says or does is meaningless. Just his statements are a proof of that.

Karzai according to the Afghan constitution cannot run for a third term, the next leader will have to please all the various ethnic groups.

India will remain enough "in the picture" in Afghanistan to do in Pakistan what Pakistan has been doing to its east via its newfound proxies.

India has slowly consolidated its position internally and internationally to the point where it now holds distinct long term advantages. Adding Afghanistan as a thorn in Pakistan's backside will only help that process further.
