Just landed in Lahore a couple of days back as i decided to take an indirect route from Karachi to Faisalabad. It was almost three year period since I've been here, so I decided to stay with my friend for a day or two. in the night as i used to do when i was in Lahore, we went straight to food street for dining. But this time it was a disappointment as the deterioration of quality in food was evident. Apart from general hotels spread around Data Darbar, Yaadgar and other populated places, Food street was still very economical and delicious to dine in three years ago than now.....what do lahoris think about this. Am i right in my assessment or its just an odd object in the same good old sample???

Food street as most people remember it, does not exist anymore. The people living in that street weren't happy with their living situation. I know I wouldn't be happy if all night long I kept hearing people downstairs and the very distinct sound of "Tuka Tuk".

Case was put forward to Lahore High Court and the people won. Now the street is not commercial anymore. However, Lahori's haven't lost their charm of food. The new 'Food Street' is now in DHA Lahore. Come over to the H-Block market and you'll see how crazy we our when it comes to food.

That's not the case here, nice try though!

Anywhere you go in Lahore, the most crowded places are always the food establishments. Its not a question of who can afford what, we're talking about the food street here. Same title can be used for 'MM Alam Road'.

Clearly you've never been to Pakistan. 1000 to 2500rs in DHA? Please visit the market yourself, see how much you have to pay for a hearty meal.

One platter from CnB Rs 150, add a coke 1/2 ltr Rs 30. Multiply by four and the whole family satisfied in Rs 750 or so. Even in a good restaurant a bill for 4 people is around Rs 12-14 hundred. Now if you have an itch for Cafe Aylanto, Freddys, Roasters etc well then you have the pocket to spend Rs 800-1k per head.
Lahore can fill you up from Rs 20 per head to more than 1k per head. The choice is yours.
P.s go to Johar Town main boulevard as well. Many good places have opened up specially Paniniz for Italian sandwichws and pasta. Try Pizza and Pasta in dha too. And for Pakistani and routine affordable continental, try any one of Gourmet's restaurants (Faisal Town, DHA Z block and opposite Pakistan mint near UET) as good as salt & pepper but almost 25% cheaper.

Lahore has got some pretty decent places, especially those cafe's. Damn.... why don't we have Nando's & Hardy's in Isb?

Oye it is Capri not somebodys niece!
And the best Halwa Puri in Lahore is not Capris. A government servant sets up his stuff in (note it is not on but 'in' fellow Lahoris will understand) Beadon road at about 6 am ish everyday. Finishes by 8 am or so and no one in Lahore can match his halwa puri.
Khan baba aka chill laaoo located at Chowk Choburji.
P.s it is Punjabi wala chill.

karachi food for ever :P miss the BBQ there

well Karachi is expensive indeed. BBQ2nite has increased its iftari from 500 to 900 in one year and dining almost costs 12K per head!!! there are only a few places where you can have quality food at affordable prices....(Yamak and KBC are amongst those few)

I've got friends from Karachi who come over quite often. I also go there every 3 months or so and we all agree on one thing, that is except biriyani, Lahore does every other type of food light years better than Karachi. Best example Bbq Tonight in Lahore. The major % of customers there are Karachi expats. Lahorites don't go there quite often. Reason, it is expensive and a number of places here do Bbq better and in more variety. But like I said Karachiites do biriyani better hence the rapid expansion and loyal clientele built up here by Student Biriyani.
