Has China catched up with Turkey in salaries?

Turkey announces new minimum wage - World Bulletin
www.worldbulletin.net/sports/.../turkey-announces-new-minimum-wage
Dec 31, 2013 - The net minimum wage will be 846 Turkish liras for the first six months of 2014 with a raise of 5%.

The net minimum wage is 891,03 for a non married guy, however the net salary is dependant on wether a guy/girls is married and or has kids.
For example, a typical family where the man that is married and has two kids gets a net minimum wage of 931,19 TL.

What's the minimum wage in China by the way? Sometimes they are talking about a couple of dollars a day in the western news.

It differs from province to provinces. Yes, it is lower than Turkey at the moment, but it is constantly increasing in recent years. The lowest province is half of the data you mentioned, it is about 9 dollars per day . There is not tax for salaries below 3500 Yuan (around 600 dollars).

Usually ppl don't earn minimum wage due to labor shortage. As the OP said, restaurant waiters in both countries earn similar salaries. In Turkey, 18% of young ppl are unemployed but in China, it is not a big problem for young ppl to find a job. The minimum wage is usually used by small enterprise employers to escape social security/insurance (for example, the employee earn 3000 Yuan, but the employer use 1500 Yuan as base for calculating social security/insurance).

Wow !!! triple.
I estimate that GDP of Turkey is better for them than GDP of China to China salary.

Always question your sources, because if you don't, you'll wreck yourself, as many Vietnamese who go to Japan thinking they'll be welcomed as "great allies" are looked down on, discriminated against and limited to work only in nail salons, karaoke bars and pho restaraunts.

Are you seriously comparing China to Turkey? Chinese salaries have gotten higher in last decade but nowhere close to Turkish salaries. Even Chinese who work for multinational countries like Apple are getting paid very low. That is why they don't have domestic consumer power. The money is just enough to feed themselves. The salaries and work intensity is so harsh that a lot of Chinese are commiting suicide.

Nets outside of the building because Chinese are throwing themselves of the building to stop the missery.

Some china companies is the better than Turkey ,but others is inferior to its. so it's easy to cause salaries inequality /polarised from the whole, good firms is very good ,but bad is bad .Attention, i say good firms refer to high salaries firms

Interesting photos. I suggest that when you successfully upload a photo, you click the full image to fill it in. It's convenient to read. From the graph, east coast provinces remain the most developed even in 2020.

I think the best social security system is medical insurance.
A farmer in my city only need to pay less than 100 RMB per year , and if he goes to hospital and spend 10,000 RMB
The GOV will cover his total expense by at least 75% . If he does not buy special medicine,GOV will pay 90%.
If you do not have a job , you can apply relief fund. This policy only apply to city civilian , not farmer, but most of young people will not apply this fund.
Another big improve is GOV start to enhance the pension.

Turkish unemployment benefits to jump to TL 1,500

December 14, 2010, Tuesday/ 16:52:00

The Turkish government is planning to increase unemployment benefits to between TL 1,000 and1,500 per month with new regulations currently in development.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security intends to update the system for the calculation of unemployment benefits in Turkey. Under current regulations the unemployment payment is limited to a maximum of 80 percent of the gross minimum monthly wage as determined by the government -- that is, there is no consideration of an applicant’s most recent salary prior to becoming unemployed. This means that up until now the highest unemployment payment could not exceed TL 608 per month.

With the new regulations being proposed by the Labor Ministry, unemployment benefits will be calculated by considering the social security premium of the person paid to the state. Based on current social security premiums in Turkey, the unemployed may be entitled to a monthly payment of between TL 1,000 and TL 1,500 per month.

Moreover, the government aims to also increase the coverage of unemployment benefits so that more people are able to access them. Over half of the 10 million people registered with the Social Insurance Institution (SGK) are in reality earning above the minimum award wage, but their social security premiums are being submitted by their current employer based on the minimum award wage rate. Due to this shortfall the state incurs losses of billions of Turkish lira each year. Companies are being encouraged to pay the insurance premiums for their employees -- and in the case of business owners, pay their own -- social security premiums to accurately reflect the actual salary being earned, as the unemployment wage will be determined based on these social security premiums. This will also mean that it will be important for employees to check whether their employer is submitting the correct social security premium amount on their behalf.

Approximately only 2 million unemployed people have received unemployment payments since the current system was implemented. During the month of November this year, 165,000 people received unemployment benefits in Turkey.

To be eligible for unemployment benefits in Turkey, the criteria are that the individual must have been fired through no fault of their own, after having worked consecutively for 120 workdays prior to becoming unemployed and having paid social security premiums of greater than 600 working days in a three-year period. Unemployed individuals who have contributed a minimum of 600, 900 or 1,080 working days in social security premiums can be eligible to receive unemployment benefits for a period of up to six, eight or 10 months, respectively.

Many people are not eligible to access unemployment benefits because of the stipulation that a person must have been gainfully employed and paid social security premiums for a minimum of four consecutive months prior to becoming unemployed. With the proposed changes to the regulations, in addition to increasing the unemployment benefit rate, the government aims to make it easier for individuals to meet the criteria for unemployment benefits.

TL 45 billion accrued in unemployment fund
The unemployment payment system has been implemented in Turkey over the last eight years. In this period more than 2 million people have received unemployment benefits, while there have been 2.47 million applications since March 2002. The state has paid unemployment benefits to eligible applicants totaling TL 3.69 billion in this time. The SGK Unemployment Insurance Fund currently has an accrued balance of TL 45 billion.
