Lord Mountbatten transferred powers to Pakistan on the 14th at Karachi and to India on the 15th at Delhi 'cause he couldn't be at two places at the same time. Legally it was supposed to be 15th but we stuck with the day when it was actually transferred to us and celebrate 14th August as our Independence Day !

it was also because Jinnah wanted Pak to created a day before.
