HAL to provide IAF with 83 Tejas fighters in Rs 39k cr deal

If your answer is no, then you will be able to figure out the stupid logic you guys are trying to use to defend a pricy purchase

Frankly, the LCA project helped us develop an aeronautical ecosystem in India despite it's long timeline and missed project deadlines unlike JF-17 where the entire fuselages come from China along with kitted sub-systems. This would definitely enable us to fastrack the developmental process of future projects like MWF, TEDBF & AMCA. No wonder, the full scale model of MWF came up at such a quick pace

Secondly, don't ever rely on the costs of aircrafts that show up on wiki. For instance, Su-30MKI costs us around $45mn while your listed price per your post is $37mn since there are a lot of additional and unseen costs which only pop up when you start building/procuring them along with a ton of additional weaponary/sub-systems package. For instance, the cost of Malaysia's Su-30MKM is listed as $35-53mn which involves all the cost of weapons package/training/maintenance facilities set-up etc

Yet, that's the sale price of the Su-30 with additional/advanced systems.
On the other hand your airforce is going to buy a much smaller jet, with far lesser capabilities for almost twice the tag. And yet they are actually trying to sell it to foreign buyers too? Like who in their right mind is going to buy that?

And since you are comparing with the JF-17.
It's not about where the fuselage and kits come from, its about being part of the whole development process and having people trained on it even if not at home. It's about having a system that one can buy in numbers that gets the job done, and enables the pursuit of a more advanced and ambitious project.
India tried to reinvent the wheel, and still ended up borrowing most of it from other sources, and assembling it together (the very reason it costs so high).
Pakistan on the other hand took the wheel and remodeled it to its requirements and got a version exactly as was needed with minimum expense and waste.

Initially it did, but most of them have been eventually replaced by indigenous sub-systems. Overall if you see costs of foreign components, it's still kinda high (around 36%) since the engine accounts for a major chunk of it


Because MWF is what IAF wants in significant numbers
The 66 million price tag includes support over a period of years and not the standalone price of one jet.

As for your justification of $65 million per plane which is stupid tbh without trying to offend you.
The money goes out of your defense budget, and local or not, purchasing something so pricy is not going to help anyone.
You do know they can get a F-35 for ~$80 million?

And in comparison:

$34.1 million – F/A-18 Hornet
$42.1 million – Su-34
$48.6 million – MiG-35 Fulcrum
$45-55 million – Saab JAS 39 Gripen

The price includes life cycle support and maintenance. Come on, the standalone price is around 30 million. Should have understood by seeing the price tag.

First up, the price quoted for Tejas Mk-1A includes weapons package, support and maintenance/initial spares, facilities for lifecycle support etc. Also, PAC does nothing more if not less than what HAL does in the integration of Su-30MKI. That model works well as long as you have the support of the host country. On that note, why did y'all take up Project Azm when you could ask for J-31? When project Azm kickstarts, unless China agrees to use their test facilities and their expertise, it would be extremely difficult to progress in the developmental phase. I agree pak's dire economy couldn't support the developmental costs of a fighter jet program which is why y'all had to bank on China but no country would give you any critical or core technologies down the lane, even the closest allies. If ever relations turn sour, that's when you'd face the wrath similar to how US ditched both Pak & Turkey.

No wonder, we've always been cautious on procuring anything significant from the US - particularly our frontline fighters despite offering the best deals like F-21, F-18, F-15EX with local production & ToT

Hal tejas Mk1a are same as JF 17 block 3 (technically) ........ you means to say, both jets... right??

its all about radar and avionics ... and now EW capabilities of any aircraft
if AWACs is in air then it becomes another scenario

Tejas Mk-1A will be using Uttam AESA Radar, GE-404 engine and avionics/EW suit from BEL/BDL - Hyderabad. Primary BVRAAM's would be Astra & Derby

JFT Block 02 will also be getting AESA radars soon that too at half the price.

Same only.....technically both are almost same level..... (some level Tejas is better and some level Jf 17).

Even the Israeli Radar is license built in India by BEL.

Also the LCA aircraft body is Low RCS carbon fiber. Unlike JF which is metal body with high reflection.

Finally,

HAL has promised to begin the delivery of the fighter jets within three years from the day of signing of the contract.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have signed the biggest ever deal in indigenous military aviation sector for procurement of 83 single-engine Tejas Mark-1A fighter aircrafts, reports the Times of India.

The signing of the much awaited deal not only comes as a big boost for the Government's push for Make in India programme and indigenous defence production, but also for the IAF which will benefit from the massive induction of newer fighter jets in its fleets along with the induction of 36 Rafale fighter jets built by french defence major Dassault Aviation.

It should be noted that the after intense and prolonged negotiations between the IAF and the HAL, the deal's size has been slashed from the erstwhile Rs 56,500 crore to Rs 39,000 crore. The overall reduction in price will enable the IAF to use the saved sum of over Rs 17,000 crore for other developments.

The deal having been signed by HAL and the IAF, it now only awaits the final nod from the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) which is headed by the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi himself. The CCS is expected to hive its final nod in this fiscal itself, which ends on 31 March.

Meanwhile it should be noted that HAL has promised to begin the delivery of the fighter jets within three years from the day of signing of the contract upon approval of the CCS.

The fact that India had to send in Mig 21s only to be slapped in front of the world tells you how much the Tejas has hurt India
