HAL HAWK JET SEEKS TO TAKE MARKET SHARE FROM CHINA-PAK JF-17 THUNDER FIGHTER

India and UK are targeting EXPORT market for their jointly developed combat/trainer version of the Hawk trainer aircraft.

A jointly developed, dual role version of the Hawk trainer aircraft is expected to debut at the Aero India show later this month aiming to target countries which are potential targets of the Pakistan-China developed light jet, the JF-17 Thunder.

The countries have been working jointly for two years under a model with Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) and BAE pooling resources to develop a faster, more agile Hawk that can also carry smart weapons.

The aircraft, which is currently being assembled in Bangalore for the AeroIndia show next week, has several new features including a new wing design by HAL that gives the plane more agility, extra power and the ability to carry a range of conventional and precision weapons for an operational role, the Economic Times reported stating that the aircraft that will undertake its first flight in March this year.

"We have had good interest for the aircraft. There have been a few visits by our neighboring air chiefs who have shown interest," HAL chairperson T Suvarna Raju was quoted as saying.

BAE, which manufactures the plane and has EXPORTED it across the world, believes that the Advanced Hawk will be in demand with several air forces that are acquiring advanced fighter jets.

The company estimates that there is a requirement of over such 300 trainers worldwide that will be targeted with the new product.

"The Advanced Hawk can carry a payload of 3,000 kg mounted across seven stations.

The aircraft is a competitor to K-8 not JF-17 please edit the post. The article you linked got it wrong. K-8 is also jointly developed by Pakistan and China. Now about K-8 is a proven platform and already 600 units have been produced and come in multiple variants for different role so no competition at all. Secondly HAL has a known record of late delivery by at least 50 years so no one will buy a thing which will be used by their grand children. So good India wasting money again.

According to the last deal of IAF and HAL for 57 BAE HAWK MK132 , the average fly away cost of 1 aircraft was already near 20 million USD.

With all this useless " combat capability " , the cost would rise above 30 million USD.

It cannot be alternate for fighter but it may have some fighting capabilities but that's how K-8 is already being used in point defence role.. the new Hawk-HAL may be better than K-8 in combat role and jet trainer but that's it..it cannot compete with JF17 blk 1..

No sane mind will ever compare Trainer cum attack aircraft with dedicated attack aircraft.

But unfortunately he did get enough time to learn how to clean the nose before appearing in a TV program.

JF-17 BLOCK-III is the export variant which costs the same as HAWK trainer, has twice the speed, twice the range, twice the payload and it carries a 1000 TR module AESA fire control radar. Indians will be foolish to even compare. Its like saying that HAWK can outsell Gripen NG.
