What's new

Hajj Stampede, 700+ pilgrims died.

2 million is still a very high number. This is something which needs to be considered.Last time we have greater number of people and Sauds hosted them in fabulous manner. If number is not the problem then something else is,and for such purpose,we need to wait till investigation is completed.I agree!

Yes, it is. One needs to experience the Hajj themselves before they can realize what a logistic nightmare it can be at times but for obvious reasons KSA has mastered that difficult trade after years of practice. Unfortunately we are humans and prone to committing mistakes. I of course have no idea (nobody has yet) what caused this tragedy to occur so I will not pass any judgements. All I can say is that this should not be linked to the expansion project as that has been ongoing since 2007. In that time period (2007 until now) a similar number of hajis have visited each year and no tragedy (stampede) occurred until today. This is important to have in mind.

I have to admit that I am still shocked. First the Makkah crane collapse (freak accident during extremely bad sudden weather, typical of Makkah at times) 2 weeks ago and now this.:disagree:

RIP to the dead and best wishes to the injured.

Some sources speak about more 300 deads.

There is some information about the initial cause of the stampede?

It is not easy to handle millions of hajis and host them as well.Anyways my condolences to the martyrs, and wish for speedy recovery to the injured :)

It's a tragedy beyond belief. When something like that happens you realize how fragile we are as humans. I can't imagine being a Haji (one of your highlights in life) just to end up dead at the end of the journey. They are martyrs yes, but it should not have reached this point.

Although I have nothing to do with this accident you feel a bigger burden as a Saudi Arabian and Hijazi (Makkawi) moreover. The Hajis have always been a part of us and vice versa. It's hard to describe. We have been their guardians and welcomed them for 1400 years in a row. Many of us (Hijazis overall) are descendants of those same Hajis who settled when it was a once in a lifetime journey. It made Hijaz one of the most cosmopolitan areas of the planet and enriched it greatly on most fronts. When such things happen you have a sense of failure. I can only speak for myself.

I can understand this sir,our relationship is beyond established lines. However,as a muslim,I consider this an honor to be taken by Hazrat Israel[A.s who is archangel of death],when I am praying and especially offering pilgrimage :)
Ya-akhi,it was Allah's decision and how ''He'' did that, will be soon expressed, and we will ended up thinking xyz was the cause:D

You are right brother. I would have preferred that those martyrs would have died of old age while performing the Hajj instead. I cannot imagine the scenes of panic. God forbid, that any child was a victim. Although such tragedies are not in our hands.

For these sheikhs, hajj and umra have became yet another way to earn more for their luxuries.

450 pilgrims have died this year alone in crane incident and stampede.

What the fu....k these sheikhs are doing.

Second incident, as if there are no proper arrangements.

The reducing oil prices and yemen wars have dried the money wells of sheikhs.

Not the fault of Sheikhs... Whenever theres such a huge gathering of ppl, such incidents can happen.. Crane incident was mostly due to bad weather.. Nw how can u blame sheikhs for tht? And today's incident ...was also unfortunate, but these can happen in such large gathering.. In my opinion, Saudi government tries its best as humanly possible... Its not easy to accomodate such large gathering of ppl every year... But still usually their arrangements are very good...and they take care of hajis well.... Even they took those injured of crane incident , who had no serious infection, along with helping staff, to make them perform hajj...unfortunate Incidents have drastically reduced overthe last few years... Its unfortunate tht second incident took place this year... I am sure Saudi govt will seriously look into the matter

What on earth is wrong with you ? These were accidents and they can happen anywhere. Stampedes are mostly caused by pilgrims not following instructions , trying to go the wrong way. I remember when i was 13 at hajj , a stampede was caused by pakistanis who were carrying luggage on top of their heads. One of them tripped and caused a mass stampede.
