KATHMANDU, July 10: A Gurkha soldier serving in the Indian Army was killed in an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Nowshera Sector in Rajouri District (J&K) early morning Friday. The deceased has been identified as Havildar Sambur Gurung of Gorkha district.

Media reports said Gurung died while undergoing treatment at a local military hospital after receiving a bullet injury. The 27-year old Gurung is a permanent resident of Manbu village of Aarughat Rural Municipality in Gorkha district.

Gurung is the second Nepali Gurkha soldier serving in the Indian army to be killed in Pakistani army’s firing in less than a month. Earlier on June 22, Indian army soldier Havildar Dipak Karki of Gulmi district was killed in the same place.

He was saying that in Indian military, Dravidians, the Ganga belt people and Central Indians don't fight and only the remaining Indians do. So I said that same may be the case in Pakistan. Only Punjabis and Pashtuns do the fighting while others mostly don't.

An army personnel was killed in mortar firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district, officials told a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS), on Friday.
An police officer told GNS that the army intimated that the personnel, Havildar Sambur Gurung of 33 Rashtriya Rifles (58 Gorkha Rifles) was only duty when he suffered multiple injuries in ceasefire violation by Pakistan at 00:45 hours on 9 July. “Pakistan fired two rounds of 60/82MM Mortar which landed near the bunker in which Gurang was present. The splinters entered through loophole as a result of which he sustained multiple injuries on his face, arms, and left leg,” the official said, adding, “he was shifted to medical facility but he succumbed to the injuries.”
The soldier belonged to Manbu area of district Gorkha, in Northern Nepal. (GNS)
