The growing co-operation between India and some GCC states in the defence sector is expected to boost the demand for Indian-made patrolling vessels and frigates in the region in coming years, a senior official of the Goa Shipyard Limited has said. The firm is owned by the Indian government.Speaking to Gulf Times yesterday, Commodore Prabhat Shrivastava, director at the shipyard (Corporate planning/projects/ business development), said their company, employing about 1,400 skilled professionals has already manufactured a number of patrol vessels, and there is a growing awareness about equipment produced by the yard around the world.
In the last two editions of the Dimdex defence exhibition hosted by the Qatar Armed forces, Goa Shipyard was among the main participants and its pavilion attracted a lot of attention from visitors.
We have found that very few countries of the Middle East have recorded the kind of economic growth that Qatar has achieved in recent years and the countrys requirements to guard its coastline and territorial waters are growing, said Commodore Shrivastava. The official said the shipyard has designed, developed and manufactured more than 115 vessels for the Indian navy, and ministry of home.
