You don't need to speak English to get a degree in Urdu or Islamic Studies etc.

This type of stuff boils my blood. The only language you need to speak is your own.

How they get degree ?

English was not the language of Babylonians, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Indians, Chinese, Incas, etc and yet they built civilizations. You wear English glasses and view in that perspective. Even today you can do PhD in many languages without knowing English.

There is another saying in Urdu about people who adopt other culture but they are misfits everywhere. "Kawa Challa Hans Ki Chaal Apni Chaal Bhi Bhool Baitha" (A Crow tried to be Swan but forgot how to be a Crow). You can try to became a Englishman but you cannot change your ethnicity/race and will neither be Englishman nor Pakistani i.e. misfit.

We got it all wrong. We are trying so hard to learn English(subcontinent) yet Japan doesn't speak English. They don't because English is not precondition to development.

Legislation, assembly debates and procedure all can be officially done in Urdu. The producer who approved of this should be ashamed of himself. The people who post this, laugh on this and post their usual these-are-our-politicians comments should look inward and see the bitter inferiority complex that they suffer from.

Language is a mere tool for communication. For those people for whom another language becomes a symbol of being educated and/or of social class and modernity suffer from nothing more than a low self esteem.

No one can deny the importance of English as International language.English is only medium of communication between all nations .

English being a more used medium of communication does not mean it's the only medium of communication. How many languages do the UN and EU operate and print all their documents? Bi-lingualism in Canada?

There is no need to start English classes. If somebody wants to learn English, he can do so very easily.

You can speak Urdu and local languages, that is good enough. English should not be a necessity but a welcome addition to your linguistic ability.

Stop being obsessed with "educated politicians". If the legislature were to be perfectly representative of the populace, not the vision of the urban elite, then >95% of the legislators would be unable to communicate in English better than the ones in this video (I'm not suggesting that this is a representative state assembly).

I'd support them if they speak Punjabi, Saraiky or Potohari in the assembly.

Be very careful;

English is not the national language;
it is the Official language of Pakistan and these are the officials of Pakistan.

Secondly by in large being fluently conversant in English is thought to be a litmus test for the quality of educational institution.

Thirdly are you in any way trying to defend / justify the lack of education with these nimrods ?
