Gujarat government gives Statue of Unity contract to Larsen and Toubro

The Gujarat government on Tuesday awarded the contract for constructing the Statue of Unity, a bronze statue of India's first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, to engineering and construction conglomerate Larsen and Toubro (L&T).

The 182-metre statue, which will be the world's tallest and twice the size of New York's Statue of Liberty, is a dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Statue of Unity will be installed on the river island called Sadhu Bet near Vadodara in Gujarat on the Narmada river around two hours by road from Baroda city.

The company won the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract for Rs.2,979 crore through a bidding process for the project that includes the setting up of a memorial tourist centre with an exhibition hall and hotel around the base of the statue.

The project will take 42 months to complete, L&T said.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had in his maiden budget announced that the government has allocated Rs.200 crore to help fund the project that Modi launched before he was elected prime minister.

Tough i would be happy to see GIFT projected being given the utmost priority than anyother project in Gujarat.

GIFT construction is going on with full pace now.
Yes MEGA will be a good addition. We are also getting 4G WiFi network in all over Vadodara from next 2 month. Towers have been erected all over( just next to my society too).

Yep gift 1&2 have been completed with construction on road ,cooling system going on and construction of Hotel to begal soon,but i was taling aboout those 50floor structure,i know they are building it in phases but i want those towers to rise sooner than later

Yes Reliance Jio it is. There office is near by my home too. It will be free for first 3 months then one has to pay.( though will be free on railway station, Bus station, airport and other public places like Sayaji baug etc).

Hell... I barely get 150kbps on 3G!
