Grestest Warrior of World - Genghis Khan

A few years ago China made a 30 episode TV drama "Genghis Khan". The leading actor is a Genghis Khan's direct descendent. The show was exported to Mongolia. It is an OK TV show but Genghis Khan was too much glorified.

It's quite interesting to see how Chinese adopt Genghis Khan and his legacy as China history.
Whatever, I bet my lunch for "Genghis Khan" in that TV series would speak Mandarin.

Genghis Khan defeated highly advance armies with his unique war strategy and war machine.

Khalid bin Waleed defeated stronger armies with divine power.

Not that i underestimate the power of faith, however that is not all that is required to be a great warrior/commander.

Khalid bin Waleed had men under him, men who died like any other.
It was his great courage, steely determination, sheer brilliance and unmatched skill which made him victorious over many armies and top commanders which Persia and Rome threw at him.

You would do well to read in depth about his strategic vision and tactical brilliance which ranks right on top along with the likes of Alexander and Genghis Khan.

However Khalid also had another quality, he was the best duelist of his time and killed scores of enemy champions in one on one encounters which were a tradition in those days. In armed or unarmed combat, Khalid's great strength, supreme confidence, speed and lightning reflexes made him something of a living legend...a legend which only grew as he fought the best armies and champions in the world.
There was not a single Arab, Roman or Persian champion who took on Khalid and was not defeated. This is something most extraordinary for a commander in chief, which to me makes him the complete Warrior.

With his combined traits of military leadership, courage and fighting skills...he was a complete and peerless warrior/commander.

Khalid never lost a battle against the Roman and Persian empires. He was undefeated against two of the super powers of his time and this includes epic battles where the enemy had nearly a 100,000 Troops with Muslims at a disadvantage of 1:3 combatant ratio.

Another very interesting fact about him is that as a non Muslim he was the one responsible for inflicting the only reverse on Muslims when they were commanded by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Khalid was the commander of cavalry and lingered on waiting for an opening even though the infantry of his Army had already started fleeing. The Muslim archers thought victory had been secured and left their post on a strategic hill against the instructions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Khalid immediately calculated his chances and flanked the Muslims and nearly routed the Muslim Army which had to retreat to the hills for safety.

This was a key trait of Khalid, he really never ever gave up and was always precise in his calculation and timing with a counter attack...even in seemingly hopeless situations, he never lost tactical clarity or strategic vision and this inspired his subordinates so much that it became common knowledge amongst all Muslim soldiers that if Khalid was in command, they would never lose any battle.

There is no Warrior born in the world who could defeat Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed (R.A).... The person Known as "Sword of God"

Genghis Khan's legacy is not considered as China history, but Kublai Khan is. And a lot of people are confused of "Chinese" vs "Han Chinese". You probably don't know that there are twice as many Mongols living in China than those in Mongolia. As a matter of fact, pretty much all Golden Family's descendent(Kublai Khan's branch) live in China. Since Genghis Khan is considered as a hero by ethinic Mongols, so he is a hero in China although academically he is not considered as part of Chinese history.

The TV series were broadcased using two languages, Mandarin in China, Mongolian in Mongolia and Inner Mongolia. The banners/documents shown in the series use tranditional Mongolian characters that are still used by Mongol Chinese. (As you can see in the wiki picture)

Yup Ghengis khan and Alexander the great were probably the best commanders of history.

Although there are other worthy mentions Saladin Sun Tzu? Cao Cao , Julius Ceaser , Octavian , Cyrus the great , Napoleon , Nelson , Hannibal probably many others.

Should have a thread for this kind of thing:P

Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed (R.A.) was a true military genius, his achievements and his conquests against numerous odds are unparalleled! Terming his achievements as divine power might be injustice as without divine power no man in the world could have achieved anything.

It is said that before he (R.A.) accepted Islam, he (R.A.) inflicted the most damage to Muslims.

Muhammad bin Qasim could be considered as true hero , because his aim was to liberate people from the atrocities and terror of existing rulers, and he was kind to every community though he might not have captured extra ordinary piece of land like Genghis or Alexander did.

We have to define what do we mean by greatest warrior?

If we mean greatest conqueror, historically it was definitely Genghis Khan. His armies conquered more land area than anyone else.

If we mean greatest general; Genghis did not command many of his campaigns personally, in such a comparison there are other generals such as Alexander, Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, Hazrat Khalid bin Walid(RA), Amir Taimur, Attila the Hun. George Washington, Georgi Zhukov, Duke of Wellington and Heinz Guderian etc. can also arguably lay the claim.

If by warrior we mean winner in one to one combat then Hazrat Ali (RA) would probably rank first.

Sir,

I remember Javed Akhtar ( the lyricist-poet-writer of Hindi films ) saying: If you conquer the world from west to east you are hailed as great and if you conquer the world from east to west, you are condemned as a barbarian!
I have read Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World by Jack Weatherford. Really interesting book.

these two were known to foreign people because of the book 'Art fo War' and the game 'Dynasty Warrior', but in Chinese history their military achievement cannot even come close to Bai Qi (lay down the military supremacy for the state of Qin who was the first state to united China), Huo Qubin and Wei Qin (the two who destroyed Huns, forced them to migrate westward), Hang Xin, Chen Qingzi, Li Jin, and etc`````

I think if you consider the impact on the current world, following people got to be the best commanders, their impact is no less than Ghengis Khan:

Weiqing/Huo qubing: Han Dynasty generals who drove Huns to Europe. Huns eventually destroyed East Roman (There's debate on this whether they are the same Huns)

Li Shimin: Founder of Tang Dynasty, who defeated Eastern Turks so our Turkic brothers had to move west and eventually changed Asian/European history. :P

Ugh, Off topic.

Grestest Warrior of World - Genghis Khan

More like world's greatest killer.

Bad childhood is a constant aspect among serial killers, psychopath or Grestest Warrior/mass murders ,be it Genghis Khan or Hitler you name it.

Smart men with great appetite for killing and less care for human life make conquers or mass murderers ,not warriors .

Real warrior or knight defends the poor and weak who can't defend themselves.

Chingis Khan was as great a warrior as you could possibly find. He did change completely the ethnic structure in some central asian countries, an example would be Bukhara. The present population probably owe their existence to Chingis Khan's army, difficult to see why they would consider him a terrorist.

Your point about other warriors like Mahmud of Ghazni is well taken. One must refrain from judging people of a different period in history by today's standards. Only, if even during their period, they were considered particularly barbaric should they be described as such & even then with caution.

Actually the main urban centres of Uzebkistan such as Bukhara and Samarkand stil have a large Persian/Tajik prescence and in fact are supposed to be majority Tajik despite what the Uzebk census says, which counts bulingual tajiks as Uzbeks apparently, look it up yourself. Similarily the atrocoties that took place further on in Persia were equally horrible and Persians dont have a very high opinion of Cengiz. Just a small example from Wiki

According to Steven R. Ward, "Overall, the Mongol violence and depredations killed up to three-fourths of the population of the Iranian plateau, possibly 10 to 15 million people. Some historians have estimated that Iran's population did not again reach its pre-Mongol levels until the mid-20th century."[87] In a letter to King Louis IX of France, Holaku, one of the Genghis Khan's grandsons, took sole responsibility for 200,000 deaths in his raids of Iran and the Caliphate.¨

The fate of Urgench is probably the most known one. Again if i may quote wiki "The Persian scholar Juvayni states that 50,000 Mongol soldiers were given the task of executing twenty-four Urgench citizens each, which would mean that 1.2 million people were killed. While this is an exaggeration, the sacking of Urgench is considered one of the bloodiest massacres in human history."

Of course these numbers are exaggerated but there is no doubt that the Mongol conquests were one of the most bloodiest affair in human history. If we then deem them to be great warriors or just pure terrorists is upto the individual. However for me their actions are not noble or honourful in the least and that for me is one of the factors behind the title of "greatest warrior.
