Logistical nightmare, soon Egypt will have a ship from every country.
The cost of the ships are '1.5 billion' euros. Moreover, the rig and armament activities of the ships have been completed. In other words, if the purchasing country wants a different configuration, this will create additional costs. Italy will remove some critical navionics and sell these two vessels as an export variant.

This two ships were previously proposed to Brazil and KSA. Brazil refused, due to abnormally high costs. I don't know KSA's answer. But they will probably stick to the program that walks with Lockheed.

The advantage of Egypt is that it has FREMM in French' export configuration. However, there is a serious hardware difference from the main mast to the main propulsion system, which is an obstacle to the establishment of a 100% joint logistics line.

The main reason of why Egypt buying such expensive frigates (with Italian financing) while Italy cannot find exact customer: its prospect of creating a political leverage in the Mediterranean. 'Cos main jet training aircraft tender also seems to go to Leonardo (M346). Egypt is trying to find a balance between France and Italy in military procurement tenders.

Time will show how much this will affect Italian foreign policy about Libya etc. issues. However, a small anecdote, an additional protocol was signed recently between Qatar and Italy. According to this agreement, Qatar will be the first navy to have a submarine in the Gulf Arab states. As you know, Qatar has a military agreement with Fincenteri, consisting of 2 LPD and 4 multirole and 2 OPV corvettes, with an cost of $ 5 billion.

The France have MTU engine and the Italians have ther own. Same with the sensor package, the main question is, will Egypt face the same like France did with them. Downgrade version with no VLS and EW suite?

Don't forget they have order from Germany another MEKO fregatte, so many different ships means costly maintain. From crew to parts, in the end they will ask for money from KSA for maintaining so much different equipments:-).

Egypt already operating Ships from different origins for 40 years with a top notch maintenance service.
Egyptian Armed Forces is following a strict diversification policy .... not to depend on solely source to avoid political pressure to some extent.

yes , there will be a few logistical and maintenance difficulties but it is the price of a minimal level of independence.

Except such policy doesn't make sense, all these purchases you have made from the West are still vulnerable to political pressure from US, and Western equipment, specially ships share many foreign components, even if a single country blocks sales of parts or weapons, your navy will be heavily crippled. and in times of war, you won't face few difficulties, you will face many logistical difficulties.

Egypt's military is too deep for new comers to understand..A nation that was making fighter aircrafts and ballistic missiles since the 60's.. its like kids arguing with their war well experienced grandfather..

And by the way there are other news talking about TOT in this deal..same as for the Gowind and the Meko200..:-)

I am amazed to see that Egypt now has billions of dollars to spend on defence when only 2 years ago they had bread riots in the country when they raised price of bread. May be they should also reduce the price of bread by half if they have too much money now. Does Egypt have any neighbors threatening that it needs so much arms Egypt is now Zionist's boot licker and guard dog of Gulf states.

so what ? Turkiye has developed Aircrafts in 1930s-1940s

as of 2020 Egypt is nothing .. Egypt can not develop anti ship missile , cruise missiles and even guiden bombs
and Egypt buys FREMM Frigates without EW System and A70 VLS for land attack cruise missile

that means Egypt is a kid

not really, Iranian frigates used to use western anti-ship missiles but now we use Iranian clones of Chinese missiles.

with the level of technology present in todays ship that would not be possible unless you also switch out radars and other sensors, also its not just anti-ship missiles, there are air defense missiles, engines and etc.

The only way to reduce dependence is to invest into your own industry, otherwise trying to reduce dependence by buying weapons from everyone just creates a massive logistical problem.

In fact, recently news has emerged about Egypt's interest in launching a large naval program based on Fincantieri products which include the sale for 1.2 billion euros of the last 2 multi-role FREMM frigates launched for the Italian Navy (which it would receive in exchange new units soon to be built)

And a program with an estimated value of around ten billion euros for the acquisition of another 4 FREMMs and about twenty patrol boats to be produced also in Egyptian shipyards.

Last year the Egyptian Navy was interested in about twenty Leonardo AW149 helicopters (plus another 10 as option) to be used especially on board the two Mistral amphibious assault helicopter carriers, the Ghamal Abdel al-Nasser and the Anwar Sadat: an order never confirmed by Leonardo but of which there has also been much talk in France because Italian helicopters have been preferred to the NH-90 proposed by Paris.

On the negotiating table of the Italian-Egyptian military cooperation programs there would also be the interest of Egypt for the acquisition of 24 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter, as many M-346 trainers and at least one satellite, all produced by Leonardo.
