Greece to send Patriot missiles to Saudi Arabia

AFP

4 February 2020

Greece will send some of its Patriot defense missiles to Saudi Arabia under a program involving the US, Britain and France, the government spokesman said Tuesday.

Athens will deploy the missiles at Saudi cost “to protect critical energy infrastructure,” government spokesman Stelios Petsas told reporters.

“The deployment contributes to energy security, promotes our country as a factor of regional stability and strengthens our ties to Saudi Arabia,” Petsas said, adding that talks on the move began in October.

He did not give a date for the deployment.

The US, Britain and France are part of the same initiative and Italy is likely to join, the spokesman said.

The announcement came as Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was on a Middle East tour for investment talks with the governments of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. He visited Riyadh on Monday and is in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

“As a defensive system, this constitutes no threat to other countries in the area,” Petsas said.

Earlier this week Petsas said that “around 130 personnel” would accompany the missiles.

The Saudis just strike me as utterly useless people

Sometimes I wonder about the IQ of the average Pakistani user or whether or not some of those 40% (illiterate people in Pakistan) have somehow gained access to the internet. Either that or the usual Arab obsession from partially Arabized people.

Yes, the people who founded 4 of the 11 largest empires in human history, whose people and dynasties ruled most of the Muslim world for almost 1000 years from the very beginning until 1517, whose culture, religion, language and civilization is the most influential in the Muslim world while having immensely influenced Western culture as well, whose people gave rise to a higher number of Muslim scientists, scholars etc. in history than any other people as well.

Today, 2020, KSA has the best ranked universities in the entire Arab and Muslim world, one of the highest literacy rates (almost approaching 100%) one of the highest scientific/research/patent outputs in the developing world and one of the fastest growing and a population where most people have a university degree.

PDF and its usual stupidity never disappoints.:yahoo:

In the real world this is about dealing with a temporary shortage of Patriot batteries due to maintenance and those batteries being relocated across the GIANT country that KSA is. This is to additionally cover the oil and gas facilities in the Eastern Province until our own are serviced and deployed. THAAD won't be delivered until 2023, S-400 a few years away too while the joint KSA-Ukrainian BMDS is a few years away from being ready as well.

Greece makes sense as KSA-Greece relations have reached new heights in recent years with a lot of potential for mutually beneficial cooperation on numerous fields be it trade, tourism, military, culture, education etc. Greece is almost a neighbor and part of the neighborhood and the ties are ancient.
