Govt set to ink record $2.2bn arms deal with US

Care to elaborate? Are you saying the India doesnt have the ability to take the technology needed for development of a particular part ( lets say HUD ) and improve on it?

If that is so then I can confidently reject your claim by citing the fact that Indians have one of the largest and smarted contingent of engineers . A nation which can reach the moon must be having sufficient capability to improve a spare part of a 4th gen jet. Having said that I dont imply that we will have the work force enough to innovate in every sphere .

Once a technology is transfre to India, I believe India can produce the product domestically.

I do believe that India does produce some of the best and brightest engineers out there. But I do not believe that India implement the policy to best utilize its talent. Its engineering brain power is being held back by the beauracracy. As a result, India is not reaching its potential.

.
if India absorbs the tech,we will see some change:use the tech to improve the weapons which India holds now(MIG21,lca and so on),but we haven't see these now

I totally agree. India still cannot absort the technology. It definitely can manufacture components after the technology transfer. But its not able to develop upon technology transfer. In this regard, I believe that Iran and maybe Pakistan is even ahead of India.

Why the pejorative phrase "muscling in"? The US offers combat environment tested hardware. Who else does? India certainly doesn't have to buy anything from the USA. Don't buy it! Certainly India doesn't have to fear a disadvantage that the USA will sell it to China. So don't buy it! Go with the low budget Russian stuff......

I dont think muscling is used negatively here. Its just that for so many years, US was not selling any arms to india and since the relations are much better now, US companies are fast and aggressively displacing other suppliers primarily due to the technology edge..

India is getting junk from Russians. If I am the Indian leader, I would side with the US and get in line for F-35. Russians need money so they are willing to sell their top of line aircraft with TOT to India. If India choose to buy from Russians over the US aircraft, fine. But if its buying it because of TOT, then that is not a good decision as TOT still mean that India must acquire part of the compoenents from foregin sources. Unless, of course, India also get TOT for all the components, such as the western European radar. Than that may be a different story. Otherwise, a partial TOT is a waste of money.

Isnt most of Chinese hardware bought or reverse engineered from so called Russian junk??

Cant disagree there..

A lot of Chinese weapons were developed from the Russians. I believe.

Of course they suck compare to the US hardware. Can Russia or China field a plane that can compete against the US latest?

I am not sure what is your intent when you say things like that..However with the assumption that you are here for some meaningful discussion i would like to ask what made you think that A country with a billion population ..a booming economy...one of the largest number of youths in the world don't have the capacity to absorb even TOT?? whereas countries like Iran and Pakistan are ahead of it....

Iran is capable of reverse engineering. It reverse engineered and IMPROVED upon a missile C-802 that was supplied by China. India doesn't show that it has this kind of capability.

3. Can you prove that India do something with its TOT. China without TOT can reverse engineer. India never develop anything out of TOT. A total waste of money

Indians respect Intellectual Property that is why we always ask for TOT,unlike China who just open the stuff and copy it.We can do it too but wouldnt US cry hoarse then regarding its technilogy being stolen

If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.
Shall we return the NEWTON'S law back?
And the KGB and CIA stolen each other's tech for many many years, this is a normal thing.
if we give you an F-22,I doult wether you can made a Undercarriage wheel

What an Idea sir ji!!!....India should copy all the weapons...If you are giving some technology to other country...and that country copy it.Will you again supply any weapon next time to them...That Y our DRDO and HAL takes so much time to develop new thing...Keep your suggestion up to your country leaders

I agree with you. Indians inherently just don't like America and Americans.

There have been polls year after year that prove that indians have the most favorable opinion of US of all major nations, including all nato nations.

I think you inherently just don't like this liking indians have for america :usflag::usflag::usflag:

he aircraft requires a crew of three (pilot, copilot, and loadmaster) for cargo operations. Cargo is loaded through a large aft door that accommodates both rolling stock (trucks, armored vehicles, trailers, etc.) and palletized cargo. The cargo floor has rollers (used for palletized cargo) that can be flipped to provide a flat floor suitable for rolling stock. One of the larger pieces of rolling stock that this aircraft can carry is the 70-ton M1 Abrams tank.

Maximum payload capacity of the C-17 is 170,900 lb (77,500 kg), and its maximum Takeoff Weight is 585,000 lb (265,350 kg). With a payload of 160,000 lb (72,600 kg) and an initial cruise altitude of 28,000 ft (8,500 m), the C-17 has an unrefueled range of approximately 2,400 nautical miles (4,400 km) on the first 71 units, and 2,800 nautical miles (5,200 km) on all subsequent units—which are extended-range models using the sealed center wing bay as a fuel tank. These units are informally referred to by Boeing as the C-17 ER.[24] The C-17 cruise speed is approximately 450 knots (833 km/h) (0.76 Mach).[3] The C-17 is designed to airdrop 102 paratroopers and their equipment.

The C-17 is designed to operate from runways as short as 3,500 ft (1,064 m) and as narrow as 90 ft (27 m). In addition, the C-17 can operate out of unpaved, unimproved runways .The thrust reversers can be used to back the aircraft and reverse direction on narrow taxiways using a three-point (or in some cases, multi-point) turn maneuver.
