In Malaysia there's a thing called a "Bumiputra" law. This law makes non malay citizens of Malaysia into a second class citizens.

And many Indonesian-Chinese retain their Chinese name so no problem. The Arabs also changed their name to more Indonesia sounded.

Our former Coordinating Minister of Economic and a prominent politician is Kwik Kian Gie. He has no Indonesian name. Still he is a living respected figure here.

Both Indonesia and PRC do not recognize dual nationality.

The matter has been settled long ago.

China already has 1.3 billion citizens, from 56 ethnic groups to take care of.

If the Chinese government considered Kokang to be Chinese citizens, then we would be at war with Burma right now. But we are not.

We treat them as Burmese refugees (foreign refugees), because that is exactly what they are.

If they want Chinese citizenship, they can apply for it. Until then they are still foreign nationals.

I'm sure it's not that bad! Isn't Malaysia 33% Chinese ? It can't be that bad. Some of my personal associates in Philippines are Chinese Filipinos , and most own large businesses or are successful physicians ( whose families own actual hospitals ). They live much higher quality than average Filipino Malays.

Exactly, they were given the choice to be Chinese nationals, or Indonesian nationals. They can't be both, since we don't recognize that.

The ones that chose Indonesian nationality became Indonesians.

That's their choice, and they should be loyal to their country of citizenship, which in this case is Indonesia.

Just like we expect Chinese citizens from all 56 ethnic groups to be loyal to China above all else, regardless of their particular ethnic group.

There are over 1 million Chinese living in Japan. Majority of them are from southern China. The newer wave of Chinese immigrants come from all over China, however.

It's up to Indonesian-Chinese's own decision. Can you understand? If they find the Indonesian language is interesting and useful, they will choose to learn it. If the Indonesian govt treat them well, they would be loyal to the govt. Why must be one language? They can learn both Chinese and Bahasa, why not?

However, that doesn't mean Indonesians can only allowed to speak in Bahasa Indonesia. The use of Bahasa Indonesia is mandatory only in formal situation. In education, national media, and such. Bahasa Indonesia is the highest of language in Indonesia.

in indonesia we never force someone because they learn foreign language. Bahasa is our national language. most of indonesian citizen knows 2 language - bahasa and mother language.
