Karachi: 'Shocked and hurt' by Shahid Afridi's comments that Pakistan's cricketers were loved more by Indians than the fans in Pakistan, former captain Javed Miandad has said that players making such statements should be 'ashamed' of themselves.

"These cricketers should be ashamed of themselves for saying such a thing. Shame on you," Miandad told a television channel.

According to reports, Afridi has been served legal notice for his comments on India.

Shahid Afridi has been served legal notice by an advocate from Lahore over his remarks about getting "more love" in India: Pakistan Media

— ANI (@ANI_news) March 14, 2016

Afridi and senior player Shoaib Malik had praised India after landing for the World T20, insisting that they never felt threatened in the country even though their departure was delayed due to security concerns.

"We have always enjoyed playing in India and have been loved by Indian crowds more than crowds back home in Pakistan," Afridi had said.

Miandad said Pakistan had gone to India to play in the World T20 but it didn't mean that the players should pander to the hosts.

"What have the Indians given us? Speak the truth even while in India. For the last five years what have they given us or done with Pakistan cricket. Having served Pakistan cricket for so many years, I am shocked and hurt to hear such comments from our players," Miandad said.

The veteran of 124 Tests said the Pakistan cricket authorities must look into this matter and there should be proper media classes for the players when they go abroad.

"The job of this team is to go and play well in India not make such unnecessary comments," he said.

Pakistan's former Test opener and chief coach Mohsin Khan also expressed his surprise over the comments from Afridi and Malik.

"They are senior players and should be careful while speaking to the media specially while touring India," Khan said.

Looks like Afridi will get a sound backlash back home.. legal notice, ex players bashing.. only thing that can save him is either another statement of wrong interpretation of winning the WC T20 or reaching finals with very good team performance and individual performances too

some BS is always expected...

Deep inside, Pakistanis are Indians after all.....!! :)

.
Just like Rohit Sharma-Mohd Amir issue, this is a case of media taking something out of context and making a headline out of it.

.
Javed must have gone cuckoo. Being a player himself, he should know best that fans in both countries always welcome other team as hosts.
I recall 1999 test India and Pakistan at Chepauk, where Pakistan won a hard fought test in spite of Sachin's fighting 100 and when Pakistan team went for a victory lap, the whole stadium gave them a standing ovation.

Similarly in 2003-4 when India won ODI series in Pakistan, the then President Musharraf, too praised Indian Team and Dhoni's hairstyle too.

Cricket lovers like tough rivalries and Indo Pak matches provide them with that opportunity. I'm not sure why media and some people really want to highlight random statements here and there when surely there is little love lost between both teams.

It will be a big day for human evolution when pakistanis understand the correct meaning of these words

Terrorism
Secularism

At topic, its just hyperbole. Why are people missing that?

Wrong time to make such a statement......... The best thing Pakistan can do is, Ignore this statemement and not to make this a controversy.....That will put pressure on the captain and the team which probably not necessary as of now.......

Once the team is back home then one can ask explanation on the reason or circumstances for making such a statement....

Who knows. may be this controversy made afridi to realize who is the real "Chote Dil" guys.....

Afridi is right now BURDEN on team, Under his captaincy we Progressed from No#2 to No#8, He is captain of T20 last many years but we never questioned him about his performance.
He is 38 Years old (not correct age) must be 40+ (he himself admitted his age is not correct), his Arms have shed the required power to take Ball outside the Ring but still we take him as Part&Parcel of our Team

Leave Shahid Afridi alone.. He is just making his retirement plan! :coffee:

Ok Guys leave it....Do you people have any Token of Past in your Current Indian Team???
.
Our Shahid Afridi belongs to 1996 Era...?? 20 years been passed ....Still we treat him like a Baby with one Exception....we stop demanding Question about his Performance.

.
Negative people will take my comments negatively - Afridi said so -

. .
Go and die there Sukka.
He got soo much luv and thats the reason he made a 50 of 19 balls.

.
That statement from Afridi and then indian people's love for Pakistan cricket players is a slape one the face of those hindu extremist groups and non state actors who were saying they won't let Pakistan come and play.... now they should know no one in India support thier views or anti Pak extremist idiology .... indian goverment should take action against these non state actors
