FYI 30000 Gukha forms less than 3% for 1300000 strong indian army 80% for which is non Gorkha Hindus rest Sikhs and others.

Bengal army which won the British north west rebelled in 1857 and seize to exists henceforth.


Just for the sake of record, most British officers were assacinated in Bengal and by Afridis during independence struggle.

Though off topic, the points made are not quite right.

Muslims particpated in the Mutiny of 1857, they remained as a ' martial' race, so did Rajputs from Oudh and Central India.

The Presidency armies, like the presidencies themselves, belonged to the East India Company until the Government of India Act 1858 (passed in the aftermath of the Indian Rebellion of 1857) transferred all three presidencies to the direct authority of the British Crown.

I also don't agree to it. Our greatest post-independence military victory, the 1971 war, was given to us by a Parsi General (Gen. Manekshaw) born to a doctor . He was aided by a Jewish General (Gen.Jacob) and both Parsis and Jews does not come under the so called Marshal Race.

The days of mercenary soldiering under various ruse are over. The energy of the Gurkha will now be deployed in retaking the lands they had lost to the British. For instance, Darjeeling is theirs.

The Gurkhas in the IA are not from Nepal alone.

Recruitment takes place from Dehra Doon & Darjeeling as well.

The regts shall not be ' history'.

There are enough Gorkhas in India to form Regiments of the Gorkha Brigade in the future.
Just as there are Khampas, Bhutias and Lepchas and others like them. So no big deal!

In the meanwhile, the Nepalese Govt. ought to work hard to provide employment opportunities to the Gorkhas, esp. the youth. Or else they will have to deal with another "Prachand Prachanda".
