Well actually the 450 MICA missiles being acquired along with Mirage 2000V5 upgrade are actually meant for use by both Mirage 2000 and Jaguar IS Darin IV upg
These missiles can also be used with Rafale if it wins the contract , which seems quite possible since Rafale costs atleast 20 million USD per aircraft less than EFT , and is also a better Ground Attack platform than EFT

That's not correct Archie, the Jags are pure ground attack fighter that will get just new SR missiles and no BVR capability, that's why it might get ASRAAM, or Python V. The Mirage 2000s instead gets MICA in for WVR and BVR and most likely additional hardpoints to carry up to 6 of them in any role.

very expensive deal...original deal is worth 3.4 billion..(along with air to air missles)
the reason quoted by french was closure of assembly line..but frankly india is blank check for every defence contractor

the contract also includes the cost of setting up neccesary infrastructure in india.

Some questions to ponder -->

The deal so expensive doesnt make sense at the first glance however,

If India has made up its mind to go with Rafale or atleast there are enough indicators that L1 will be Rafale then this could mean that,

India initiates infrastructure setup for Mirage upgrade in such a way that it will have necessary ground work to expand towards Rafale production..this would further bring down the cost of Rafale offer...

HAL is trained on latest French production capabilities much before RAFALE arrives for production..significantly easing out any chances of dealy due to untrained manpower.....

Finally CCS has cleared this expensive deal, it is my hope that they wont raise a ruckuss when RAFALE comes along which will be exhorbitantly expensive...

French avionics are combat proven unlike Israeli one, atleast for Indians. And more importantly, the OEM of Mirages deserved the contract anyway and the exercise that IAF held was against FAF, so all natural for IAF to knock French doors...

The contract signed is for upgrade of 52 aircrafts. It certainly means there are at least 52 Mirage 2000H. IMO If there are more of 2000s they do not matter anyway because without upgrade they would be of least concern.
