BEIJING, March 28 (Xinhua) -- China continued to lead the world in courier delivery volume in 2016, a report showed Tuesday.

China made up over 40 percent of global express delivery volume last year, contributing about 60 percent to the sector's growth, according to a report released by the State Post Bureau (SPB).

The total number of packages delivered increased by 51.4 percent year on year in 2016 to more than 31 billion.

Last year, couriers delivered over 4 trillion yuan worth of retail sale products that had been bought online, accounting for 12.5 percent of total retail sales, the report showed.

The delivery network expanded from 4.8 depots per 100,000 people and 6.7 depots per 1,000 square kilometers in 2010 to 15 and 19.1 depots, respectively, in 2016, according to the report.

Meanwhile, service quality also improved, with fewer complaints.

The development of courier delivery firms go hand-in-hand with the growth of eCommerce.

The bigger Alibaba, JD, etc are, the bigger will be these courier delivery firms.

Conversely, for eCommerce to be successful in a country, it must also have good, cheap and efficient courier delivery companies.

Yes, the success is embedded in a bigger picture.

JD's logistic centre in China's poorest province

Delivery is very fast in China!
Efficient and cheap
Wanna mail a document to a city 500km away?
Call them, they will come to your office, and it will arrive in the same day.

Or just send the document via e-mail :D

40% of global volume, that's alot of money! Early last year in another thread I predicted the new super-quiet billionaire Wang Wei's net worth should exceed $16 billion after SF Express IPO.

After IPO, as per Forbes 2016 Rich List released on 27 Oct 2016 he was $18.5 billion, in line with my prediction.

As of now he is ... $28 billion ... what's next?

Has been said before and I happily say it again; China re-emergence is a blessing for Asia.

By 2030 there is no turning back. America will be surpassed in virtually every category by Zhonghua.

Similar trend in Greater China.

I recently ordered a Xiaomi Mi Band on 金東, and it arrived super fast.

Normally, if there is delay, it is because of TW regulations.

Still, getting faster, obviously.

In Mainland, I know, people think it is just the way it should be if they order this evening and received next morning.

China's logistics is the next revolutionary front for explosive, innovative growth.

We won't be a supa powa in this century!

Listen to the Founding Father, bro.

How different it is from the current sub-continent super power!

[Speech at the Thirtieth Session of the Central People's Government Council.]

"What can we make at present? We can make tables and chairs, teacups and teapots, we can grow grain and grind it into flour, and we can make paper. But we can't make a single motor car, plane, tank or tractor. So we mustn't brag and be complacent. Of course, I don't mean we can become complacent when we turn out our first car, more cocky when we make ten cars, and still more complacent when we make more and more cars. That won't do. Even after fifty years, when our country is in good shape, we should remain as modest as we are now. If by then we should become conceited and look down on others, it would be bad. We mustn't be conceited even a hundred years from now. We must never be complacent."

I heard from TV news a couple of days ago, on average, every Chinese receives 23 parcels through couriers per year. This is HUGE!

Is this from Mao Zedong? He is THE visionary of our time!

Looking back, it is amazing what Mao and CPC have achieved for China and Chinese people in a little more than half a century. I was reading some of posts by PDF members this afternoon, some of them were bragging about the number of servants they "employed" in their families as if that is the way it's supposed to be. Until such a time when those people realize in heart that people are born to be equal, that country does not have a very convincing future.

China could have been just like that, and we need to thank CPC and Mao for making China what it is today.

well said....

Also remembering the founder of the republic, Dr. Sun, his own vision of railway one century ago has not been achieved yet.

Yes, a quote from Mao Zedong.

His insights are really worth discovering because they illuminate light on our present time. He is a great visionary even after he is no longer physically among us.

It is amazing to discover the basics of China's contemporary governance in Chairman Mao's words. For instance, it was him to first voice out a no-first use strategy, which China has adopted.

His ideas are indistinguishable from the present governance of China because they are all drawn from China's civilization experience.

Also remembering the founder of the republic, Dr. Sun, his own vision of railway one century ago has not been achieved yet.

He has also been another visionary founder, milestone of China. Some of the concepts he developed, such as people's democracy, people's livelihood etc. are inherent in China's constitution.

While Chairman Mao derided Chiang Kai-sheck, he showed great respect and admiration to Dr. Sun.

He said:

"Thus the Provisional Constitution of the Republic of China in 1912 [promulgated by Dr. Sun] was a fairly good one for its time. Of course it had its imperfections and faults and was bourgeois in nature, but there was something revolutionary and democratic about it."
