Ghani dubs Pakistan 'important pillar' of Afghanistan foreign policy

Isn't this an exceedingly silly reading of diplomacy? What if he meets Modi next and says India is Afghanistan's most valuable regional ally? Will that mean Pakistan/Saudi Arabia/China are 'out'?

On a different point, I tend to share everyone's positive assessment of Ghani. In particular, his desire to engage the Taliban in talks- something that should have been done in 2002-03, when many Taliban commanders who were willing to participate in the new order in Afghanistan were betrayed.

off course he is going to say this i think
saying anything is too early stop and watch moves first

Keep in mind that Abdullah Abdullah P.M of Afghanistan is Famous Friedn of India and 1000 Afghan Army Officers are in India for there Army Training.

his excellency Dr. Ashraf Ghani President of Afghanistan Statement regarding status of his powers in Present Afghan regime :-
In an interview with The New York Times last month, Mr. Ghani cited a parable to describe the problem confronting them. “Two people are riding in a boat and one of them took a chisel and started making a hole in the bottom and the other one said, ‘What are you doing? You’re going to drown us.’ And the other said, ‘I’m making the hole in my part of the boat.’ ”

“That captures it,” he said. “There are not two boats.”

In Afghan system PM is as powerful as a president in Pakistan

For Afghanistan's sake I hope he doesn't, because if he does then status queue will not change. Mr. Ghani seem like a smart man as compared to Karzai whose policies were based on the hate he had for Pakistan.

Wouldn't handing over Fazlullah be a part of some sort of quid-pro-quo? Some action on the groups in Quetta? I'm sure someone in the ISI knows Mullah Omar's home address.

I don't think Ghani's willingness to engage the Afghan Taliban should be mistaken as the willingness to participate in some form of a power sharing agreement with them. There will be no blanket amnesty and the Afghans will want many of the Taliban old guard brought to justice.

How will this square with Pakistani policy? Can Pakistan afford to crack down on the Afghan Taliban when they are trying to co-opt them (and the Haqqanis) in the war against the TTP. This thread Pakistan's War...AQ, AT, TTP and USA? has several details about this policy.

Also, I'm no blind nationalist and am wholly willing to admit to India's various foreign policy machinations (which I greatly disapprove of). However, India has nothing to do with the TTP.

I dont think any of Afghan taliban or haqqanis should be in Pakistan now, anyways...tht Zarb e azb is going on... I think they must have already moved to Afghanistan before the operation..i-e .if they were in Pakistan before the op...so Ashraf ghani can do whatever he wants with them......but i doubt he wants them eliminated now....rather he would want to make a peace deal with them, esp at a time now, tht when nato forces are leaving...if their leadership could not be eliminated in all these yrs... The best option now would be to talk to them..... Pakistan may have contacts with the Haqqanis leadership and maybe still have some influence over them, and this is exactly what Ashraf ghani would want to exploit and hope Pakistan to cooperate on... He would want Pakistan to use its influence to bring haqqanis or even mullah omar at negotiations table and thts it and broker a peace deal with them.....As tht is the only way forward ... But for Pakistan to wholeheartedly cooperate in the process... There should be trust factor between the two countries ... And for tht, Ashraf ghani should start with handing over fazlullah to Pakistan...tht would be a huge confidence building measure.... Now regding .Indias support for TTP... Well its not much a secret... Indias many consulates in Afghanistan are there for a reason...
