Get the real shit when it comes to coffee

Is there any reason Luwak is chosen for the honor of shitting beans? How about other animals? This animal here looks like it's sick of eating coffee seeds. Maybe a change in diet will cheer it up. :D

Luwak like to eat red coffee berries and beans. In the jungles in which they live, they find the sweetest, ripest ones and munch on them with their cute little faces. But they can’t digest them, so the berries and beans come out as poop. One day, humans discovered that the enzymes in the civets’ tummies break down the coffee’s bitterness, leaving behind an extremely delicious pooped bean. They took the poop home, washed it lightly, roasted it, ground it, poured boiled water over it, and drank it.

Some people said Tastes like caramel and chocolate! But i found it rather bland to my tongues, maybe you can try it for yourself someday :coffee:

We called it Kopi Luwak, Raccoon Coffee, they smell nice for any baristas in Indonesia they are the most requisite item on the table. Per glass can hit 60 to 110 US dollar easily

Coffee culture is more into Acehness I guest, and yes I am a coffee lover as well. They have many shops specialized for just drinking coffee since long time ago. Not a surprised though, Coffee in our country is maybe first originated from Arab, and we all know that Aceh is the first culture who are exposed into that culture. Actually I never drink that luwak coffee, the most expensive coffee I have ever had just Starbuck and JC Donuts :)

Thks for the explanation. So Luwak is like quality control, choose only sweetest & ripe ones, sounds great. You say it taste like caramel? Maybe I'll try it some day, but the thought of poo poo & caramel, hmm...

In Vietnam, I think people misunderstood that Civet was Weasel. They suppose that the Civet has the musk, so that the coffee beans would have a good smell.

In Vietnam, I think people misunderstood that Civet was Weasel. They suppose that the Civet has the musk, so that the coffee beans would have a good smell.

Interesting. Musk is actually male smell, perhaps the coffee is popular with women drinkers? Or maybe just marketing talk to hype up price? Maybe they can expand to other animal, imagine digging thru elephant dung for the goodies.:p:

Forget robusta and arabica - this is the world's most expensive coffee, given its unique flavour by...an elephant's digestive tract.
The thought of a coffee bean passing through an elephant's internal organs might not leave coffee-lovers overly enthused.
But the unique coffee, created in the hills of northern Thailand, is now the world's most expensive variety.





The elephant dung coffee is created when the animals have eaten and digested the beans, with a gut reaction inside the animals said to be responsible for the unique flavouring.
Attendants scurry to collect the huge animals' dung, before forensically sifting through it for the valued beans.
The provenance of the beans may leave some connoisseurs feeling nauseous, but the coffee's price tag certainly places the bean at the highest end of the huge global market.
The coffee is priced at $1,100 (£685) per kilogram.
But for those brave enough to give the coffee a try, only the most well-travelled will be able to get their hands on a cup.
It was launched last month at a few luxury hotels in remote corners of the world - first in northern Thailand, then the Maldives and now Abu Dhabi - with a price tag of around $50 (£31) a cup.

The coffee's creator, Blake Dinkin, said scientific research had made him pursue the idea of using elephants to produce the coffee.






Dinkin, who spent $300,000 (£187,000) developing the idea, said: 'When an elephant eats coffee, its stomach acid breaks down the protein found in coffee, which is a key factor in bitterness. You end up with a cup that's very smooth without the bitterness of regular coffee.'
The coffee is similar to civet coffee, or Kopi Luwak, another exorbitantly expensive variety extracted from the excrement of the weasel-like civet.
An elephant's massive stomach provides a bonus, however. It takes between 15-30 hours to digest the beans, which stew together with bananas, sugar cane and other ingredients.
Dinkin, 42, from Canada, said this helped infuse unique earthy and fruity flavors.

It's OK, Koreans even drink wine made of human feces. Very popular in Korea.

One of Korea’s best-kept secrets, Ttongsul (똥술) is Korean for “feces wine”. This drink is made by pouring shochu into a pit full of chicken, dog, or human feces, and leaving the mixture in the pit until it ferments. Human feces is most popular, since it’s readily available from chamber pots. It’s similar to the African drug jenkem, but unlike jenkem, Koreans actually drink the Ttongsul, out of the belief that it can cure illnesses.

The drink is not very popular anymore but can still be found at traditional restaurants, as shown above. Korean food is famous around the world, but it seems like this is one drink that would be difficult for foreigners to enjoy!

Well, Minangkabau are so vary, they can look like Malay/ half Arab/ half South Asian/ half Chinese. Maybe we are related though........:agree:. This tribal is a famous trader in our nation, so in the past the place were believed to be inherited with so many race beside Malay. Actually a recorded one is Arab village at Central Padang (near beach) based on China story.

My cousin for instant look exactly like this Oshin / East Asian

Some looks like Arab/ Turkish / South Asian etc, and my best friend looks like Bashar Al-Assad with pure Minang blood. Some in my family also has a nose that has Middle Eastern feature although not that big :D

Could you confirm that:
  • In each family of Minangkabau, woman holding birthright called Turun Cicik, the sister of inheritance line called Turun Nyi.
  • The Minangkabau has the custom of eating betel.

I've actually read another article that said these weasel coffee are dangerous for the human consumption and it's marketing gimmick that is driving the prices up for a few unlucky vietnamese with more money than cents (sense). This will never pass stricter western quality control as I've yet to see them in Canada and US.

disgusting, than again certain wealthy Japanese elites used to love eating Japanese female feces hence the term Japanese buffet.
