Turkish vehicle manufacturer Otokar has placed an order through MTU Friedrichshafen to supply four Euro-Powerpack engine assemblies for its future Turkish main battle tank “Altay” prototypes. At the heart of the latest version of the Euro-Powerpack is the MTU MT 883 engine with common rail injection technology which delivers 1,100 kW of power.

More likely, Turkey could obtain tank engines from South Korea (domestic Doosan model DV27K used on K2)

Hyundai Rotem rolls out last K2 with MTU powerpack, switching to locally made engine

Look at this thread again, never understood the opportunistic enemity of Indians towards Turkey even thought Turkey never did anything to Indians nor it had much active interaction with them, they foam from their mouth once a country has good a relationship with Pakistan, well anyways not a big loss....

.
Exactly. That's precisely why U.S can not afford to lose Turkey altogether.

Turkey's warming up to Russia is just Turkey's way of showing that it is not reliant on West exclusively---and it too has many other options.
You risk loosing something that is firmly in your camp; not something that has one foot in your camp and the other foot outside.

For some in the WEST, Turkey is already a lost cause:

These are all some possibilities, but based on some news, a loophole was found to manufacture the German engines in Turkey or somewhere else, where the deal was made with the German manufacturer to open a plant outside of Germany.. I am sure you didn't miss this news..

The very same engine is already being made under licence by General Dynamics. General Dynamics GD833 . As used in the Merkava IV. And available for M1 Abrams.
http://defense-update.com/directory/GD833.htm

For trials purposes, a EuroPowerPack has been installed in a new version of the Vickers Defence Systems Challenger 2 called Challenger 2E. This version has been developed mainly for the export market and this has been demonstrated in Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
For the export market, especially Turkey, a General Dynamics Land Systems M1A2 MBT has been fitted with a EuroPowerPack and this completed initial trials late in 1998.
In 1998, MTU and General Dynamics Land Systems of the US signed an agreement under which the MTU 880 series of diesel engines will be manufactured in the US and offered on the home and export markets.
Production of the MTU 880 series will be undertaken at General Dynamics Land Systems Muskegon facility where production of the older [Detroit Diesel] AVDS-1790 series of V-12 diesel engine has been undertaken for many years with over 44,000 engines built. Most of these have been for US built M47/M48/M60 and the lsraeli"Merkava MBTs.

I thought you knew this.

O good. See who stands behind Saudi actions? In few days news for Turkey are comming from may be France and then Spain. Then US, and bang bang bang. We will witness how things worked in past and now.

Shackles of colonialism? When and of what European nation was Turkey ever a colony?!? Slept through history class?

Turkey was never physically colonized, rather it was occupied for 5 years after world war 1. That doesn't invalidate my point though. Turkey had gone through a reformist movement since the mid 1800's, they call it a re-roganisation. This was them built upon by Attaturk with his Kemalist ideology. Throughout this period of history Turkey/the Ottoman Empire was weakening and there was a cultural undercurrent that they needed to be more like Europe to compete with Europe. Attaturk took it into hyperdrive with the change of dress and the forced secularisation and anti Islamic policies. Mentally, they were colonised, it was the same mental effect as colonialism.

In colonised countries you still see an inferiority complex towards their colonisers. Those of us who have lived with our former colonisers and bettered them, don't have that problem anymore, many back home are appreciating their own worth too, but there are still plenty of brown sahibs who'll boast about British railway tracks being a legacy of development, rather than being the means by which the British moved their troops and arms quickly to destroy any resistance to their occupation.

Turkey suffered from the same inferiority complex, the people who suffered that complex seized power and influenced Turkey for generations. AKP don't suffer that complex, that why they are loved by Muslims around the world, and most Turks have realised their own self worth.

Those who haven't should do so too. There many be temporary economic set backs, but long term Turkey is a Prince in Asia, and always a Pauper in Europe. Europeans have an entrenched hatred of Muslims, they'll never consider the Turks their own. We only have to look at the slaughter of ethnic Europeans in Bosnia who happened to be Muslims, to see how well they are treated. Less than 30 years ago.

Gotta love the people from the other side of the planet acting like they are experts on Turkey, Turkish people and their history.

By Judging what you have wrote down here, i would say you know nothing about our country or our people.

oh, little butthurt Marcus at it again  l wonder if he got beaten by a Turk and now he has to post useless threads like this to make himself better...

There will be some big tensions in the upcoming months between Turkey and Germany but as always it will be resolved in no time again and our little Marcus will once again crawl in his cave to wait for another opportunity.

Its amusing how the turkish economic minister in panic mod now calls for his "dear german friends". And that evry german business is welcome.

The train left the station already.

Merkel should have done that long before. Its a proven fact niw, that Erdogan only understands the hammer.

Fun fact: few days ago the same minister said german corporations are terror supporters.

As it looks now, Germany and with it the majority of EU dont see Erdogan as partner anymore and in any field.

Italy supports the proposal from Austria and Netherlands to also end the tarif union with turkey.

Even more funny, he claims now that the so called "Terror list" which Turkey gave german officials is fake.

He also said, that the current situation is annormal and Turkey is deeply interested in great relations with Germany. And that words should calm down.

LOOOOOL Words should be calmed down`he said this after all what happened in past months? After all the insults from Erdogan?

Neither on paper, nor in reality is Turkey self sufficient.
