Germany makes final break with Turkey : cancels all investments and issues travel warning

Guys, it's election time in Germany.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_federal_election,_2017

You are overestimating the comments. The party of Mrs. Merkel (CDU) explains in its manifesto that they "acknowledge the strategic and economic importance of Turkey for Europe". CDU wants to "deepen the relationship between EU and Turkey", "strong and special cooperation between Turkey and EU regarding security and foreign policies" and so on...

What other choices when Germany stops all its investments in Turkey..and its tourists too?
That is the context where I thought Qatar (since Turkey is also supporting it in these "hard" times) can come in and compensate for the loss..since it has almost $400 billion in reserves and is the biggest exporter of Natural Gas in the world..

What will Merkel do with 3 million Turks residing in Germany?
She can not throw them out.
What does that have to do with anything? Either they are Turks, staying in Germany legally, or Germans by birth or by naturalization. They stay (if they feel like it). This has nothing to do with the relations with Turkey

In Europe Turkey is seen as an enemy and is unwanted. In Asia it is a leader and has honour. Time to throw away the shackles of colonialism. Turks after the weakening and fall of the caliphate wrongly decided that to become strong again they must emulate thier western enemy. The time for that is over Turks should no longer seek to emulate Europeans in order to gain strength but look at thier own history. Strength comes from unity, dignity, education, wealth and military power, not from 3 piece suits and pin stripes.
Shackles of colonialism? When and of what European nation was Turkey ever a colony?!? Slept through history class?
:omghaha:

Tourists Are Finally Coming Back to Turkey

Exports
The value of Turkey's exports rose 1.8 percent year-a-year to $12.7 billion in June, the country’s main exporters’ association said on Saturday.

The Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) said exports in the first half of the year also climbed 8.2 percent to reach almost $76.4 billion.

Duh. Not surprising since BEFORE any German action takes effect. Truely brilliant analysis.

Most of them are citizens. She can not do that.
Germany is bound by EU court. Any such unconstitutional act will be overturned.
In a modern history, which democratic county has deported their own citizens, albeit foreign born?
Citizenship
For decades Turkish citizens in Germany were unable to become German citizens because of the traditional German construct of "nationhood". The legal notion of citizenship was based on "blood ties" of a German parent (jus sanguinis) – as opposed to citizenship based on country of birth and residence (jus soli). This adhered to the political notion that Germany was not a country of immigration.[62] For this reason, only those who were of partial Turkish origin (and had one parent who was ethnically German) could obtain German citizenship.

In 1990 Germany's citizenship law was somewhat relaxed with the introduction of the Foreigner's Law; this gave Turkish workers the right to apply for a permanent residency permit after eight years of living in the country.[63] In regards to people of Turkish origin born in Germany, who were also legally "foreign", they were given the right to acquire German citizenship at the age of eighteen, provided that they gave up their Turkish citizenship. Hence, they were deprived of the right to hold dual citizenship because it would increase the Turkish population in the country. Chancellor Helmut Kohl officially stated this as the main reason for denying dual citizenship in 1997 when he said the following:

“ If today [1997] we give in to demands for dual citizenship, we would soon have four, five, or six million Turks in Germany, instead of three million - Chancellor Helmut Kohl, in 1997.[2]
Nonetheless, another citizenship reform law was soon introduced after Helmut Kohl finished his last term as Chancellor. The Citizenship Law of 1999, which was officially taken into effect on January 1, 2000, has facilitated the acquisition of German citizenship for people born outside of Germany, making it available to Turkish immigrants after eight years of legal residence in the country. The law’s most innovative provision granted dual citizenship to Turkish-origin children born in Germany; however, by age twenty-three German-born Turks can no longer be dual citizens and must decide whether to keep their German citizenship or the citizenship of their parent’s country of birth.[64]

Former Turkish citizens who have given up their citizenship can apply for the "Blue Card" (Mavi Kart), which gives them some rights in Turkey, such as the right to live and work in Turkey, the right to possess and inherit land or the right to inherit; however, they do not have the right to vote.

And your claim is based on?
German law.

If I recall correctly, in the same time period the tourist number from Europe declined by 17%. So, our figure is going up regardless of European actions. What people often forget is that many of the European tourists are actually Turks with European passports and due to this fact, we will always have several million "Europeans" visiting Turkey.

What other choices when Germany stops all its investments in Turkey..and its tourists too?

Qatar's investments aren't considered in the official FDI figures.

It is listing Turkish population as 1.5 million, hence most of them have opted for German passport.

The population was 3 million during Helmut Kohl's time during 1997:

It confirms that more Turks have opted for German citizenship.

Its common sense that a Turk would prefer a German passport over Turkish one.
After all if you lose Turkish citizenship, no problem, the Turkish government gives you blue card to live and work in Turkey.

You are right. Approx. 3m people with Turkish heritage are living in Germany. More than 50% are German citizens.

How cute this Italian hugs everything arms wide open that has any possibility to harm to Turkey :D Embargoes always a lose-lose situation. We can live without German cars but losing a 80 million market costs Germany greater than us since their export numbers higher than our imports.

Germany endured almost 12 months constant insults from Erdogan, which merkel decided to ignore.

Her caleld Germany nazi and facist. No response from Germany.

He threatened all european citizens with death on the streets. No response from Merkel.

He banend german politicians from visiting german soldiers in turkish bases.

Merkel did not respond.

The barrel is full now and Erdogan crossed a red line. In the end Merkel is responsible for her nation. If she allows this to go on, it would be bad for German citizens.

I personally ally don't care what happens here since I don't have a dog in the fight
.. However everything you listed sounds pretty petty... nothing to go overboard about???
Having said that, I believe both merkle and ergodan are idiots.

The difference is that Germany is an economic superpower, while turkey is a relative poor country.

As news now comes in, Germany also ends all existing arms deals with turkey.

German foreign ministsr Gabriel announced a reorientation of the German -Turkey relations. So far for months Germany ignored most of the harassment coming from Erdogan. The hope was, that Turkey fimds back on the track of reasoning. This did unfortunately not happen.

Gabriel warned all german tourists, that Germany can not guarantee the safety of its citizens in Turkey and that evryone can be arrested without reason, since Turkey is not a country with a functional justice system.

The reaczion from Turkey shows, that this is the right way to act.

While month ago Erdo and his minions labelled entire Germany as facist, called Merkel Nazi and send more and more insults, his speaker now says that Turkey wants best relations with Germany, that more Germans should visit and that this decission is "unreasonable".

Its interesting that Turkey now tries damage control.

What Germany does is right. In the end it has to guarantee the well being of its own people.

Its also a positive sign, that Germany called for a EU meeting where decissions regarding Turkey are made.

Here we go... A Markuss classic with his usual baseless accusations and wrong analyses :D

Neither Germany is an economic super power nor Turkey is a poor country. You use " relatively " term, by that logic, Germany is a poor country if you compare it with China or USA. Germany already has been trying to block every achievement in Turkey under the table. It's not first.

Again, it's Germany's lose since we have developed in-home or co-operated with a third country for every defense product which has been blocked to purchase :)

Gabriel warned all german tourists, that Germany can not guarantee the safety of its citizens in Turkey and that evryone can be arrested without reason, since Turkey is not a country with a functional justice system.

LOL! Safety of our guests are under guarantee of the state of Turkey, not German police. And our justice system is well functioning. Nobody will be arrested for no reason only if you don't commit a crime ;)

While month ago Erdo and his minions labelled entire Germany as facist, called Merkel Nazi and send more and more insults

Actually what Erdoğan said is " Such actions didn't happen even at Nazi era. " He never called Merkel Nazi and entire Germany fascist.

Its also a positive sign, that Germany called for a EU meeting where decissions regarding Turkey are made.

I hope the EU cancel the whole EU process and save both of us from this drama. But they wont...

Altay tank is finished. It is using German import engine. No way domestic produced 1500hp engine can be ready in few years time.

.
Ukraine also makes 1500hp engine.. it can be used as a stop gap..

Not sure it can be just a swap in job. Altay is build entrirely based on German 1500hp engine. A change of engine will need a major redesign and this put doubt on the program.
