Geo News on the verge of a complete BAN

Nobody Minds To Objective Professional Journalism. It Is Agenda Peddling That People Have Reacted. Our People and National Security Agencies Have Been Tolerating Their Crap For Too Long

What agenda? Getting shot and having your network threatened with a shut down is an agenda? What does Geo have to gain from this? This is a question that no one seems to have an answer to, other than RAW/CIA/MOSSAD.

Nobody should allow to barking on Pak army and ISI .........
Why? They're not gods, they're just as guilty of incompetence and corruption that the civil government is, and in some cases, they're worse.

Pakistani public demands a Balanced and Responsible Reporting.

This is a good thing that has happened and others will learn from the experience.

If you have not figured it out yet , let me spell it out for you why Pakistanis are so enraged.

1. Within minutes of the Shooting, Geo leveled the charge against Army and specifically against the ISI without any evidence presented to back up the Speculation.

2. They did not even bother to wait for any investigations.

3. For next 8 hours it was a constant barrage of medium hype based on speculation and innuendos and outright lies. Please don't insult the intelligence of us educated Pakistanis. Any Media and News agency that thinks we are not aware of their actual Agenda are doing so at their own peril.

4. During this time General Zaheer ul Islam's picture was glued to TV Screen as the person who ordered the so-called hit without giving him Due process of law as was his right based on some speculation from Mir Hamid's brother Mir Aamir ( not to mention other Mir Jaffars and Mir Qasims ).

5. Pakistani People demand more responsible Journalism which presents facts based on solid evidence and not Speculations and lies to create hype and sensationalism to improve ratings of the Station.

I completely disagree. First of all, Geo never leveled any allegations against the ISI, they only reported Hamid Mir's (and his brother's) claims. Geo has denied blaming the ISI and military, so either they've backed out, or they never did such a thing, either way, banning them is dumb.

Next, let's be honest with ourselves, Pakistanis (and any other nationality) don't want balanced news, most just claim they do, but in reality they want news that only looks good on the country. Any reporting that looks bad on Pakistan is immediately condemned to be treasonous or India sponsored. Look at how many people came out of the wood work claiming the Geo is run by RAW on these very forums.

Today's media is a sensationalist media machine, because it's the only way that these media groups can survive. No one wants to listen to news that simply states facts, because that's unfortunately boring. People have a short attention span, and sensationalism is the only way for media groups to retain their attention. As you can see, it's not totally the fault of media groups that sensational media exists, the viewers also share the blame.

.

What can one gain by ridiculing and accusing someone without any substance and that too on a forum which neither record a legal statement nor hear prosecution? Nothing but embarrassment, if embarrassment was the ultimate goal then I must say they have successfully achieved what they aimed for.

What Geo had to glean is pretty insignificant, what significant is the integrity and status of an institution. There exist no law on this earth that allow one to level accusations demeaningly and openly on media. Criticizing someone for something is altogether different from alleging someone for something.
Foundation of Geo's claim and campaign was mere unofficial statement of mr. Mir based on threats he received in past, no one can be sure about the origin of threats unless threats are looked into at various levels. Certainly mr. Mir works for Geo and Geo is not a firm that makes shoes, it's a professional media house and like other media houses bound to ethics. Geo wasn't accusing a gadha gari driver, it was shamelessly accusing a state institution without any substance. Surely one has every right to demand a legal trial but Geo instead carried out a media trial itself. What more interesting is the fact that Geo had a lot to allege on air but had no ethical motive to registrar a FIR as plaintiff against ones it thought were behind the assassination attempt. The FIR that ultimately got registered after five days on behalf of the state mentioned culprits as unidentified people, amazingly Geo showed no dissent on this. Furthermore the statement mr Mir gave to police negated what Geo had been putting up.

Has any investigation showed whether there is any substance to Mr. Mir's accusations or not? Until the tribunal that has been appointed comes up with a conclusion, this matter cannot be said to be true one way or the other. Whether those accusations are eventually shown to true or false has nothing to do with Geo's right to cover them as a story.

Well the tribunal you referred to shall only look into Mr. Mir's allegation, not into the allegations leveled by Geo. If you read my post again you'd find I asserted Geo's accusations without any substance. Needless to remind Geo isn't a plaintiff or respondent.

Of course Geo like others has very right to cover the story but only coverage not convoluted personal opinions.

Geo did not make any accusations or allegations. It merely reported on the story. While you may disagree with the style of coverage, Geo was and is perfectly within its ambit to determine coverage.

Except this is happening exactly because people are brainwashed to defend the army and ISI regardless of the situation. Censorship is the bane of freedom, once Geo is banned, you will never have a free media to tell you of the corruption of the government or military agencies.
I think it is a good step, closing down geo news or any other agency with anti establishment rhetoric will set a ..... lets say "trouble free", political environment.....

Fox news anyone?

Aye few hours of gospel recitation and few editorial typos. VC we both know the factual ground so let's put an end here for this discussion would move in circle.

Public in pakhtunkhwa and balochistan do not have negative views about hamid mir and Geo. People there are watching Geo as usual, people of pakhtunkhwa in general are not emotional and blinded for creepy intelligence agency ISI.

Sure, but as long as no further unsupported claims are made against, or for, Geo and its coverage. The correct thing to do is to wait for Geo to respond to PEMRA's show cause notice, and to wait for the Tribunal's investigation.

Fair enough?

You can complain to your phone carrier or PTA for these type of messages.

Geo's new way to reach out the people. Perhaps they have realized that people now no more watch Geo TV. Smart move, PEMRA has no control on this new medium.

Wonder is it just me who have been receiving the texts? Anyone else who have had the pleasure?

In which corruption Pak army involved you fuond......?? And if they are then it shouldn't be public other wise you would lose the country .... Oh off course you don't care of this because you're a Canadian :azn:

Except you forgot the part where Geo never actually placed any blame on anyone, and simply reported what HM claimed in past statements. They did analysis on it, but you have to remember that they're not just a 100% pure news channel, they're also a sensationalist media organization that run dramas, opinion shows, and comedic/news parody shows, just like every other major news corporation in this field. This is the price you have to pay in order to have a free media. Some times they'll say things that are ridiculous, remember CNN with the MH370 black hole theory? They should be ridiculed and condemned, but not taken off air. Like you mentioned, Geo has nothing to gain, so it makes little sense for them to go through with a so called media trial that's obviously going to hurt their ratings in the long run.

While I do agree that media organizations should be bound to moral and ethical guide lines, what Geo did is not out of the ordinary, every news organization in a similar situation would have reacted the same way.

PS. thank you for the well thought out response, God knows half the comments on here aren't adding anything to the conversation.

Unfortunately, even anti-establishment media agencies have their place. They're the ones that usually keep the government and those in power in check.

What does me having a Canadian citizenship have to do with anything? I love Pakistan, which is why I criticize it's policies. You don't blindly follow what your government tells you, because that would make you a sheep following the herd.

Now, moving on to your other statements, the military has been involved in corruption for a long time, the biggest case being lying to the public about drone strikes for the longest time (until it was exposed), and practically selling the Pak army as mercenaries in this war that Pakistan should never have involved itself in; Heck, I don't even think Canada should have gotten involved. The fact that you say that military corruption should be kept a secret is the problem with people like you. They could rob the country blind, and you'd praise them for it. If you want to fight corruption, you have to target it in all levels of every institution.

"
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”
Cicero"

And this is exactly what you're protecting.
