Well there goes seniority out of the drain!!!

Would have preferred Tariq Khan or Haroon Aslam to Raheel SHarif for some strange reason.

But oh well.

May he lead the Army to better fortunes.

I personally preferred Haroon Aslam as COAS and Asif Sandhila as CJCSC. Army's badmashi continues to keep occupying the position that should have been rotating amongst the three services.

What happens normally in Pakistan when senior Generals are superceded? Do they immediately resign or continue till retirement?

congrats..i'm feeling proud becuase his hometown is kunjah district gujrat,which is also my hometown and cuurent city. ....his brother major shabeer sharif shaheed(nishan-e-haider) is proud for us....butt i'm surprized that lt general haroon aslam got no post

I think Army should have decided their own decisions that the way there will be less chance of corruption and Politics in ARMY

Gen Haroon will also, otherwise he is to retire in April '14.

Khawaja Asif appointed as Defence Minister.

Raheel Sharif appointed new army chief

ISLAMABAD:
Lieutenant General Raheel Sharif was appointed as the new Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) and Lieutenant General Rashad Mehmood was appointed as the new Chairman of Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC) on Wednesday, Express Newsreported.


Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met Raheel and Rashad at separate meetings earlier today. Both meetings lasted for about half an hour.

Raheel was working as the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) to General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani as well as the Inspector General Training and Evaluation (IGT&E).

Rashad was working as the PSO to Kayani as well as the Chief of General Staff (CGS).

Kayani will be stepping down on November 29 after six years. He had proposed the names of Rashad as his successor and Lieutenant General Haroon Aslam as CJCSC.

• Commander, Lahore IV Corps (as three-star/Lt General)

• DG-CTW at the ISI (where he essentially re-established the pivotal Counterrorism, or ‘C’ Branch, of Aabpara)

• Military Secretary to Nawaz Sharif-era president, Rafiq Tarar (as one-star/Brigadier)

• UN Brigade Commander (as one-star/Brigadier)
