General Raheel, CIA director discuss Regional security challenges

WASHINGTON: Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif and CIA chief John Brennan met on Monday and discussed security challenges facing the region and the way forward to confront these, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Gen Raheel visited the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) headquarters in Langley, Virginia, where he held a meeting with the CIA chief.

During the meeting, the COAS specifically highlighted the need for permanent stability in the region, ISPR spokesman Director-General ISPR Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa said in a series of tweets.

The army chief stressed the need for a conducive environment in the region for re-initiating an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace and reconciliation process, Bajwa tweeted.

The CIA chief discussed with Gen Raheel the opportunities presented for the future of an enduring regional peace and praised Pakistan's efforts for the Afghan reconciliation process, said Lt-Gen Bajwa.

Brennan acknowledged the accomplishments of Zarb-i-Azb and its positive impact on the security calculus, he said.

The COAS is in the United States on a five-day visit, in a trip analysts have said will underscore security issues facing Islamabad and Washington in the region as well as the dynamics relating to civilian-military ties within Pakistan.

The US Department of Defence said on Monday Washington was grateful that the COAS was visiting the US for consultations on bilateral issues, Dawn newspaper reported.

The visit comes weeks after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with US President Barack Obama at the Oval Office to discuss many of the same issues said to be on his army chief's agenda, including Afghan peace talks and Pakistan's nuclear ambitions.

The nukes are safe. Period (But if US wants Pak to build less tac-nukes, then it needs to give Pak other toys)

Telling US‬ that India is upping ‎ISIS‬ game in AfPak. That's bad for‪ Iran‬+US, the argument will go on and on. Ajit Doval needs to be stopped from using ISIS card against Pakistan

CIA policies have already been failed in region to make India their sugar daddy .. Indians can do sh!t in the region specially when it comes to Tackling Taliban ..

i think COAS must be discussing the follow points ..

1. Possible outcomes of Talks with Taliban and its consequences.
2. Indian Involvement in Pakistan and Funding the TTP and BLA
3. CPEC security and consequences if someone try to Sabotage it
4. Enhance defense ties with US and intelligence Sharing
5. Co-ordinates Drone strikes against Taliban and ISIS to stop them.

There is diplomatic decency that all responsible nations (have to) follow. That is to say; pre-requisites before you go about taking 'other' measures. There are other channels that wake up the ambassadors at mid night to convey 'important' messages. These are the channels that have proven to work over and over again

And from my following of Gen. Raheel's style of doing things; it won't be long before he gets to business with India after efforts of Nawaz Sharif's business with India (aka diplomatic efforts) prove futile. He has proven himself to be a proactive man rather than reactive. The kind of man who does his homework neat and clean and then when he enters his workshop there is no one stopping him!
