General Kayani: Pakistan Armed Forces always stand by Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Dashgin Shikarov met with Army Chief of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. The embassy told APA that cooperation between Azerbaijani and Pakistani armed forces was discussed at the meeting. Shikarov handed Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel-General Safar Abiyev’s letter inviting Parvez Ashfaq Kayani to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan in 2013.

General Kayani expressed his gratitude for the invitation of the Azerbaijani Defense Minister. He said that he accepts the invitation with great pleasure and will visit Azerbaijan soon. He underlined that his country unambiguously supports Azerbaijan in the Nagorno Karabakh problem and has not established diplomatic relations with Armenia because of its aggressive policy. Furthermore, he said that Pakistan does not recognize Armenia as a state. He said Islamabad’s support for Azerbaijan will continue until the occupied territories are liberated.

General Kayani spoke about Pakistan’s defence industry, saying that there is a great potential for bilateral cooperation in this sphere. He said the Pakistan Armed Forces, one of the most powerful armies of the world, will always stand by Azerbaijan.

we have good relations with our Iranian brothers/neighbours.....security relationship was much closely bonded during Shahi/Ayub Khan era.

Most if not all Pakistanis stand by Iran also. Iran is however not the topic of the discussion so why bring up Iran?

Iran almost went to war with the Pakistan backed Taliban in 1997.

Ever since the 1979 with the revolution in Iran and Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan, relations between Iran and Pakistan have tanked because allied with Sunni powers against Shia Iran.

Personally we should have good relations with both Iran and the Arabs and not get involved in their conflicts with each other.

In such times when Pakistan is surrounded by enemies.. such developments are welcome.

Pakistan has a good relationship with Iran and Azerbaijan as well as Saudi Arabia.

It is better for Azerbaijan to get support from Pakistan rather than Israel.

Pakistan Air Force should help Azerbaijani Air Force and sell them JF-17's.

Azerbaijan needs help against Armenia and Pakistan should stand shoulder to shoulder with Azerbaijan.
