February 4, 2012: The Western arms embargo (because of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre) against China is crumbling. France is leading the way. European firms are particularly eager to drop the embargo, and some, like France, are ignoring it. This is done by disregarding the installation of dual-use Western equipment in weapons systems. The latest example is the use of French Arriel 2C engines (built under license in China), for the Z-9WE combat helicopter.

The Arriel 2C engine is only supposed to be used for Chinese civilian helicopters, and is used for over 300 of them. Earlier models of the Z-9 use Chinese designed and built WZ8A engines. These were not satisfactory. So now China is advertising the use of Arriel 2C engines in its Z-9WE combat helicopters.

This use of Western engines in military helicopters is not new. Five years ago China installed Canadian PT6C-67C engines in its Z-10 helicopter gunship. China shrugs off foreign protests at this, and, partly because of this, European military equipment manufacturers are pushing for a lifting of the embargo.

The Z-9 is a license built version of the French AS 365N Dauphin. It's a four ton chopper with a two ton payload. China has built over 200 of the Z-9s and many have been armed (with twin 23mm cannon, torpedoes, anti-tank missiles and air-to-air missiles.)

the arms embargo isn't really that much of a deal anymore.
just a bit fact correction.
1989 Tiananmen Square massacre never happened.
Yes people were killed in Beijing that year, the death toll was estimate from 1000 to 2000 including students, civilians, policemen and soldiers. However, Tiananmen Square massacre was entirely made up by western media and those who fled the country to gain coverage and sympathy.
Yes army did open fire on people, but little fact did people know, factory workers who were armed (at that time, a lot factories were also arms factories) also opened fire on the army who had order to clear the street. Who opened fire first was every side's story but the fact is the army did not have order or even bullets in their guns at first.

In fact, the student leaders (including Liu Xiaobo, nobel peace prize winner) who didn't flee, stay at the Square till last student was gone and went to jail later and one of student leader who got exiled(he was from Taiwan) go on a documentary refute such event took place.

Years later, wiki leaks about US government's knowledge of such event supports those student leaders' statements.

Keep the embargo it has helped us. through Countries like France and Spain were Eager to remove opposition was by the UK. anyway it's best to keep the embargo.

Rape of Nanjing never happened. It was a deliberate setup by the Chinese government to rally nationalist sentiments toward a foreign nation away from domestic grievances.

I disagree, the embargo should be removed so China can import 2 copies of every weapons platform/component it is weak in for evaluation purposes.

Whats going on with the Chinese engines, this is not the first one that failed to meet the satisfactory "Expectations":undecided:

Actually, the myth of Tiananmen massacre first came out about 2003 or 2004 when the US embassy declassified their TAM documents. The documents matches closely what the CCP reported on the TAM incident. No western press took it up. Then in 2004 a Australian diplomat wrote an article in Japan Times. Again ignored by the Western press. Several years later PBS came clean on it on the program The Tankman. Then wikileak released more evidence last year. ONLY the Daily Telegragh printed the article about the wikileak.

However many people continue to believe that thousands were killed. A case of believing in a lie because the truth does not met their perception.

The numbers are still a mystery, my personal view, all the dead should be between 200-300. This is not a reliable conclusion, just a personal idea.

Next is what????............ Let me think................ O yesss...... 1945 never happened. Japanese never came to Mainland china.

:hitwall:

My mother was there in 1989, the situation was nothing like the way western propaganda described.

I don't know why Indians and westerners continue to believe in things that they never saw, and just dismissed every other version as lies.

Every Chinese here have access to western sources, you really think we can get brainwashed by CCP all the way in Canada?

Also your signature is outdated, Chinese poverty line has been raised, is not much higher than Indian standard.
