Freedom fighters usually fight for rights which are denied.
Mandela fought against apartheid. Gandhi fought against right of Indians to choose their own leaders. MLK fought against segregation.
No right has been denied to these people. If they are fighting to establish an Islamic caliphate and masking that as a "freedom fight" - then they will be crushed. If a specific right is denied to you, by all means fight to get it.
