Seriously, after banning some senior Indian members here, the quality of post have deteriorated significantly. Reading these post make me laugh.

What the heck, they are contemplating, dreaming, inside sources and what not?

No F-35 by the time They are done with producing enough for USAF,USMC,USN,U.k,Italy,Netherlands, Canada,Turkey,Australia,Norway and Denmark (Israel and Singapore maybee) the N-Pakfa will be ready.
Even if we go for F-35 we will be getting it around 2035 or later.
Even then the F-35 will be down graded and will have too many curbs.
A downgraded F-35 which will be delivered by late 2035-2040 will not give the IN any decisive advantage.

Plus suffocating restrictions being put on them by UNKIL..just not worth the trouble...and about timeline that US can manage if we are interested...

i dont think the deal has any relation with the mrca programme,it may b an independent programme on offer from rafale

There was a old news about France offering 40 Rafales to India on fast track sale, I think this news is just a replica of that. Why India will buy Rafale, when we have better solution for money!

New Delhi, Feb 16 (IANS) US defence major Lockheed Martin Tuesday said it may consider selling the fifth generation fighter aircraft F-35 if approached by the Indian Air Force (IAF).
“We will consider this if the IAF approaches us,” Orville Prins, vice president for Lockheed Martin India’s operation, told reporters at the sixth edition of Defexpo India.

The F-35 Lightning II joint strike fighter (JSF) is being developed by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co for the US Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps and Britain’s Royal Navy.

Beside the US, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore and Turkey have joined hands to develop the F-35. Lockheed Martin is the lead developer.

The stealthy, supersonic multi-role fighter was designated the F-35 Lightning II in July 2006. The JSF is being built in three variants: a conventional take-off and landing aircraft (CTOL) for the US Air Force; a carrier variant (CV) for the US Navy; and a short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft for the US Marine Corps and the Royal Navy.

India is jointly developing its fifth generation fighter aircraft with Russia and it is likely to be developed by 2017.

Lockheed Martin is one of the six contenders pitching for 126 fourth generation medium multi-role combat aircraft sought by the IAF. The order is valued at approximately $10 billion. The other contenders are from France, Russia, Sweden, Europe and the US.

“We have completed trials for our F-16 IN. We expect other countries will also finish it soon,” Prins added.

Prins said there was a possibility that they would deliver six C 130 J (transport aircrafts) before the delivery schedule.

“There is a possibility that we can deliver in December 2010 against the schedule delivery date of February 2011,” he said.

Of course there is, because it clearly would reduce costs (unit and maintenance), than in a seperate order for IN alone. That exaclty is the reason why F35 will not be useful for IN! No commonality to IAF fleet and small number = high costs, not to mention that it will be available possibly only 2 years before a naval version of Pak Fa / FGFA will be available.
The best option for India is Rafale for IAF and IN for the strike role, while naval Pak Fa / FGFA will be added in the air superiority role. Leathal, high commonality, less costs, easier training, no problems in logistics and totally sanction proof!

Yes it's old news only reissued, because of the Garuda 2010 exercise. It was an interesting offer when it came out (I guss 2008/09), but now we are pretty close to the end of MMRCA, so it would makes sense only if they already decided that Rafale would win. If not, they will simply sit back and wait what the vendors will offer (costs reductions, ToT, partnerships, co-developments, political advantages...).

i think mmrca should b extanded to 200 fighter and 40 should be directly inducted from france to fill squbqdon no.s

It is already expanded to 300. It will most likely involve 2 vendors (to maintain pace of induction as one vendor will not be able to supply the numbers within time). It will also include Indian navy's requirement for 40+ aircrafts.

France offers to Indian Air Force for purchasing 40 Rafale fighters

A French company offered to sell 40 of its state-of-the-art aircraft Rafale fighter jets to India for a bi-lateral air exercise on Friday. An Indo-French joint exercise is to be held somewhere in India in 2011 – 12. The offer was made by the maker of the Rafale and Mirage fighters, Charles Edelstennie, who is also the scion of the Dassult family. Dessult is a multi-billion French military and civil aerospace company.

The chairman and chief executive of Dassult said, “We know the Indian Air Force, with which we have a decade-long close association, is facing force depletion. So we are ready to supply 40 Rafales, the world’s first omni-role fighters to India, in a short span of time.”

The officers of French Air Force discussed the idea with the Indian Air Force team, which is now in France for a tri-lateral air exercise in which the Singapore air force is also involved. According to Edelastennie, Rafale fighters could be an interim sale to India to acquire 126 Multi Role Combat Aircraft at cost of Rs 40,000 crore. He said, “It is fulfilling the needs and tasks of the French air force and navy globally.

An Indian Air Force officer, who is the part of the Indian continent for Garuda-2010 exercise in Istres air base in France, said, “At present, the talks for the next Indo-French exercise are also on and the French officials have expressed their desire to bring the Rafale aircraft for the next joint air exercise likely to be held in 2011-12 in India.” The current exercise also reached its final stage and exercise will be finished tomorrow. K K Nowhar, Air Marshall of Indian Air Force, who visited the Indian contingent said, “Our participation in the exercise has reinforced the manner in which we conduct our operations.”
