What's new

France in Talks with Malaysia for Rafales

Not exactly.. the appearance of new threats only make it more relevant. The F-22 is capable of becoming a day-1 weapon system that needs no one to go in and strike targets whilst being able to survive the most dangerous of air and ground threats.

new threats?? like who?? we pick on crap tier countries who can only operate old era migs and suhkois. the F-22 will be great for a rainy day if we have to face a top tier air force like Russia or China, but I just don't see that happening now.

we can still beat countries even if they have the top Su-30/35 with awaks and electronic warfare with the F-15 and F-18SH

If I may add, the United States prioritized the F-22 for dedicated mainland defense. Its primarily reserved for mainland defense or to be used in core US bases around the world. Heck, they (you guys!) even used a Congressional decision to bar the sale of F-22s to the JASDF !

F-22 is just to hi-tech to risk, but now since China and Russia are bringing out there 5th gen could re-start production in the near future and make a super raptor for export.

The decision was made in light of the sophistication of the F-22. It is STILL the best air dominance aircraft in the air flying or coming in the near future out there. The F-22 still has room the size of the entire electronics fit on the Gripen available for it to be upgraded for the future.

Will loose the best flight characteristics to pakfa in 5 years but will remain the edge if upgarded which it will be:agree:

debatable................apart from best stealth most of the electronics are outdated.Needs serious modernization:coffee:

In what sense? What of it is not able to compete with.. say the superhornet?

The last country with age old migs known as Libya needed a complete strike package of SEAD, Jamming support and so on.. which ends up making a two ship strike mission a eight ship one. By contrast, the same mission can be carried out by a two ship of F-22s at higher speeds(meaning it gets there faster) and with a much higher chance of survival.

Flight characteristics mean zilch with missiles that manoeuvre at 60Gs.. the PAK-FA can dance all it wants and it will still be blown apart by a AIM-9X. And you avoided answering about the electronics.

With proven battle-tested effectiveness, to boot.

I meant the older apg-77 and lack of irst to be precise.
The best right now in electronics is f-35 as an attack aircraft and growlers obviously as a dedicated escort jammers.

I hope so, you know, we have always longed to purchase F-22 to boost the power capabilities of the JASDF. In fact the catalyst for Japan's own 5th gen fighter program was because US Congress denied sale of F-22 to Japan. Thus, we were forced to develop our own. If and when the US decides to allow re-starting production of the 5th gen, this might effectively delay or even halt our own 5th gen program. Cost effectiveness being an issue, you know.

Surely you jest, my good friend.

We don't need financing help. Japan's economy is close to 3x that of the South Korean economy. They need partners for their program, we, on the other hand, do not.

I know the numbers man,,remember i am the sony baiter;)
My point was they already have companies like samsung on board with an aesa prototype ready too,,,japan could have joined in and shared the burden.

You clearly have no idea about the geo politics of East Asia.

Under chinese threat nothing will remain the same for long.
Both south korea and japan will unite to counter china sooner rather than later

Theoretically, could have. However, geopolitical limitations prevents this. Given the sour relations between Tokyo and Seoul.

Besides, the Koreans are in partnership with the Indonesians now. :)
