According to a recent report prepared by ” Times Now”, France has decided to Gift 32 now retired Jaguar fighter jets belonging to French Airforce to India free of cost to be used as spares on IAF’s Jaguar fighter fleet. Ex-French Jaguar fighters have been in Cold Storage for last many years and were offered to India after India and France concluded a deal for 36 Dassault Rafale in 2015.

A team from Indian Air Force and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) first evaluated Stored Ex-French Jaguars and found aircrafts worthy to be used as spares to support current fleet of Jaguar fighter’s operated by India and according to ” Times Now”, India is currently in process of shipping them back to India.

Indian Air Force also had requested France to supply Two Mirage-2000 trainers to be used as attrition replacement for Trainers which were previously lost in the accidents and according to the latest report, France has agreed to supply Two in-service Mirage-2000 trainers from French Air Force since they are no longer are in production.

Dassault Aviation is trying to build goodwill in India after a deal for 36 Rafale fighter jets signed by the PM Modi in 2015 was attacked by Opposition in India. Indian National Congress has been claiming that it had worked out better deal with France and current Modi government overpaid for the deal and also claimed corruption in the deal.

Dassault Aviation already has sent its proposal for IAF’s Tender for 110 fighter jets and have also responded to Indian Navy’s requirement for 57 carriers based fighter jet. First Rafale fighter jet is currently going through integration in France and already Indian technicians and engineers are currently undergoing training in France to induct this jet in 2019.

Dassault positioning itself for more Rafale sales. Can IAF afford to buy more?

. . . . .
why ? free of cost ?
Guess, to be scrapped. All Jaguars are grounded, so we can scrap them and use it's parts for our fleet. May be even remodel the engine and do other tests.

Also, we may buy more Rafaels.

No one else in world would buy :p
Secondly the storage and maintenance is unnecessary headache and cost to pockets :p

they should not expect anything in return.

Interesting .... After making fun of Pakistan for buying second hand fighters, India is getting retired ones.

To be scrapped and used for spare parts... And we didn't pay for them. I don't see how it's comparable, not to mention this is clearly a positioning move by Dassault Aviation & Paris in order to acquire more Rafale sales.
