Greece plans to replace its frigate, Hydra, which has most recently set sail to join the European Union’s controversial surveillance mission – Operation Irini – in the Mediterranean Sea off the shores of Libya, reportedly due to damage on the navy vessel.

The damaged frigate, which was initially sent on May 12, will be replaced with the frigate Spetsai – the second ship of the Greek Hydra frigate class, a report by the Defense Point said Wednesday.

Will France stop itself arming Haftar with weapons, this ships can transport weapons to Libya haftar with the stories like they lost Javelin missiles in Libya:-).

With a good story can tell lies to everyone.

So how is France the big talker going to stop Russians with supplying fighters?

Our navy should give them a finger and doing the thing what they are doing...:-)

It is funny how a France member is writing about the noble operation saving Haftars ***.

Engaged in early May with Irini, the French air defence frigate Jean Bart is already returing to her home port in Toulon,a short duration deployment but in accordance to what was initially planned according to military sources.

The Jean Bart hasn't been replaced by another French Navy ship (yet) nor any other European ship. Irini can for now only rely on German,Polish and Luxembourg maritime patrol aircrafts.

The Green Frigate Spetsai is on its way to the area.

Italy has approved the deployment of a frigate and maritime patrol aircrafts,it will need to be ratified by parliament shortly....

Did you know that a single French frigate stopped all deliveries of Turkish weapons by cargo ships ? The increase in air cargos between Turkey and Libya in the recent days/weeks isn't a coincidence. Turkey prefered to avoid any incident with Irini it seems.

Operation Irini is now without any ships.... the only frigate engaged, the Jean Bart has returned to her homeport on the 28th of May.... Even if the French Navy claims the "short deployment" was planned, the Jean Bart hasn't been replaced and it isn't a good sign....

France isn't happy and there could be two reasons : France has kept its word by deploying a frigate while other contributors have provided no ships yet.... Other contributors are nowhere to be seen.....

Others say it's more for a "geopolitical" reason, the blocking of an UAE tanker by the French Navy,on the orders of the Irini command, while France,Egypt,Greece,Cyprus and the UAE have agreed to work together on Libya has made some noise in Paris.....

Entire North African coast on the Mediteranean should have been part of Europe. Thousand miles of pristine, glorious beaches. Ahhh ... and 45 minute flight from cold Northern Europe. Instead it has become a Negro launching pad ... to find some white pussies !
What the hell are you on?

Very surprising development...Wish we could know what happened really in the back ground.

Can you expand on this part? Does it mean that IRINI is viewed negatively because the axis pushing for LNA is bypassing IRINI - or is it viewed negatively because France stopped an UAE ship while people feel they should just leave UAE and other members of the axis alone?

There seems to be French dissatisfaction due to the blocking on the orders of the Irini command of an UAE ship (a French ally in Libya and in Mediterranean in general) by a French frigate.... which has angered some people in Dubai and by the same occasion in Paris too... The French might not have appreciated this particular event....

The "Jean Bart" coming back home few weeks (in fact few days after this event) after Irini was launched + the fact she wasn't replaced (yet) wasn't a good sign...

Meanwhile ;

Are there any other ships in the Irini operation or only this Greek Frigate remains ?

All Irini assets ; (They still show the French frigate although it left the operation several days ago)

Italy will soon provide a frigate and maritime patrol aircrafts but it still needs parliament approval.

I see, thanks for the clarification. Well this sucks, isn't it immensely hypocritical to drag NATO assets into an operation to embargo weapon shipments to Libya but in actuality be there to stop essentially only Tukey - a NATO ally against Russia of all countries?

I wonder if there are any sane members left in NATO that are looking around and wondering WTF?

I mean I get France, sure you guys can and should support your "team" - but dragging NATO into it with the premise of "equality" and this resulting in utter bullshit is distasteful to say the least.

Anyway, onto the Greek ship - i'm not sure she's going to be able to do anything by her own. The French ship was capable and a deterrent in the area because she's armed with the weapon of French diplomatic weight.

I'll wager the Greek ship will be ignored, NATO or not.

It's been revealed by the French naval specialized press that on her way back to Toulon from the strait of Hormuz, the French frigate Forbin "surprised" on the 27th of May a roll off Turkish ship en route to Misrata. A merchant ship which was escorted by two Turkish frigates,TCG Gemlik and TCG Oruçreis.

"Officially" the ship was sailing to Gabès (Tunisia) and actually changed its course to this Tunisian port after being overflown by the Forbin's panther helicopter. Once the French frigate left, the ship resumed her way towards Libya.

So,the "Forbin" was actually the "unknown" Horizon ship spotted in Libyan waters few days ago... (Alongside the Italian ships of the same class)
