France Deploys two Frigates as it Joins Operation IRINI to enforce Libya arms embargo

When Frence’s favorite dictator Hafter were cornered by Turkish backed forces in West Libya and a giant airbase is totally surrounded by GNA, France suddenly remembered arm embargo and formed an alliance to block the helps that is being sent to UN recognised GNA.

Before this so called Irina operation, Greece and Egypt had announced that they will block supply of Turkey by enganging Turkish ships at international waters. What happened? Nothing!

Turkish forces gave a strong warning by performing a long range strike training exercise containing a dozen of aircrafts, air refueling tankers and AEWC. Turkish Navy is at the coast of Libya at present and Turkey will continue to support legal government. Did you remember when French frigates came to the Cyprus waters where Turkish ship protected by TN, was drilling the seabed while Greek Cypriots and Greeks were crying. Greeks supposed that France will be able to force Turkey to stop drilling but what happened ? Nothing. Do you suppose you can force Turkish Navy to stay away from Libya by showing flag in Mediterranean ? Impossible.

Egypt buys Rafale and Mistral from France in exchange for France backing Egypt backed Haftar. It's all about money and influence.

France is not staying away from engaging with Turkey because France is afraid. France is doing so because REMEMBER THAT they are both in NATO, and US recently decided Turkey might be the best player in the ME to either contain or tackle Iran(1 reason, there maybe more others), so France might be leaving TUrkey "alone" because US and NATO have bigger goals and wishes for Turkey in their grand plans. WHen Turkey is really of no strategic use to NATO, you will see a big difference. In the meantime, TUrkey keeps playing a useful proxy role for NATO, so France is choosing to be longsighted instead of short sighted.

France is against Turkey for two reasons
First Turkey is expanding its soft power not only in northern Africa but also across the whole continent(but for now we should talk more about northern part since Turkey has intensified efforts in Libya and to a lesser extent in Tunisia and Algeria)
Second reason is even more important and that is political islam which could have very negative effect inside France
Creation of hdp-style muslim party inside France would be a nightmare but if France manage to install dictator like haftar they would not only counter turkish influence in Africa but also prevent future domestic sociopolitical “headache”
France thanks to its military industry and economy is more than enough to pursue own policy and I have already explained you why they would continue to do anti-Turkey moves
Today France Egypt and poor Greece/south greek cypriots together with fake sparta aka UAE have condemned Turkey in joint statement.... interestingly both Israel and Italy were absent even though they were signed the worthless eastmed pipeline back at 2th January 2020
USA Turkey and NATO have their own reasons(mutual interest) to counter Iran&Russia but that has nothing to do with France in the way you have described

By the way hdp-style leftist muslim party will happen maybe not in near future but will happen in the next 10 years for sure if France is smart enough they will copy turkish handling otherwise I can say dark things might happen in the french society

The only short sighted person is you, what benefit will france have when americans kick your ***? France want to make bussines with you people, they will lose money:-). You try to talk clever but it is more dumb....

I like French people. I wish them to become a little bit more conservative like in good old days.

Yes like that ? when the Ottoman Empire saved King Francois I of France from Germans and saved France from Germans for over 200 years

Since Monday May 4. 2020, the anti-aircraft frigate Jean Bart has been engaged in the European Union’s EUNAVFOR MED IRINI operation.

Launched on April 1. 2020, the main objective of this preventive mission is to contribute to the implementation of the 2016 United Nations resolution on the arms embargo on Libya (UNSCR 2292).

The French vessel will patrol in the Central Mediterranean and contribute to preventing the risks of instability in the region thanks to its reconnaissance and detection capabilities. It will do so in cooperation with the other means deployed by other European nations taking part in the operation.

This direct support comes a few days after the deployment of the La Fayette-class frigate Aconit within the EUNAVFOR MED IRINI operation, which is now continuing its route in the Mediterranean Sea.

Sensitive to the risks that human, oil and arms trafficking generated by the Libyan crisis pose to regional stability, France has committed itself and its European partners to the European Union’s operation to combat the trafficking of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea, known as EUNAVFOR MED SOPHIA, as early as 2015. In 2020, in the context of the end of the EUNAVFOR MED SOPHIA operation, France is therefore continuing its commitment alongside its European Union partners in the framework of the EUNAVFOR MED IRINI operation.

The European Union is stepping up its efforts to enforce the UN arms embargo on Libya, thereby contributing to the peace process in the country, through the launch of a new CSDP (Common Security and Defence Policy) military operation in the Mediterranean. The European Council launched Operation EUNAVFOR MED IRINI on 1 April 2020.

I learned that that can't stop any ship without the consent of the ship's captain. More over our cargo ships are escorted by Turkish warships. So, it is out of question to search Turkish cargo ships.

The rest are supplying Haftar like France so you won't search them to....

So, it will be a expensive fishing operation. I heard other countries are not willing to participate, for instance Malta.

The mission will be commanded by an Italian admiral,Fabio Agostini assisted by the French admiral Jean-Michel Martinet.

France was the first country to engage ships in the operation ;

Italy's contribution of a frigate, three planes and 500 personnels was still under evaluation and needs to be voted through the chamber of parliament.

Germany,Poland and Luxembourg will provide three patrol planes.

Other countries will commit assets in the coming months. Over 20 European countries will provide HQ staff.

Is there any source for that ? I wasn't able to find any.

So Turkey is openly violating an UN embargo and even comitting its armed forces to violate it ? Interesting. And yes many other countries do too. Many countries act without impunity because there's always nobody to enforce UN rules. There's a reason why the GNA is worried.

Anyways,I guess encounters between European and Turkish ships will get funny.

Not to mention Turkey drills in Cyprus waters in violation of international law.
