Four arrested in Indian child sacrifice case
NEW DELHI: Police in northern India have arrested four people after a nine-year-old boy was kidnapped and killed in an alleged case of human sacrifice, a report said on Wednesday. The boy's father reported him missing after he did not return from an errand on Saturday in the city of Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh state. The boy's body was found in a field on Tuesday with his throat slit and his forehead smeared with vermilion (an orange pigment), the Hindustan Times quoted the boy's father, Jai Prakash Singh, as saying. He has been killed by people engaged in black magic, Singh added. Police interrogated a neighbourhood guard who reported that rituals had been performed on the child's body after he was killed. Four people, including three women, were arrested after the tip off. Angry residents attacked the suspects before they were taken into custody, resulting in one woman being hospitalised. Police said they were awaiting the results of a post-mortem on the boy. afp
