Former Army chief Gen VK Singh calls for immediate dissolution of Parliamen

V.K sir has the full authority to criticize the government in power as a Citizen of India...

& like i read some silly statement from Abingdonboy that he cant criticize the government for which He was up until a few months ago charged with upholding the very parliament & government...

He as general was responsible for protecting the country & its people not the government & the politicians ...
he didnt ask to Bulldoze the Parliament or Dissolve the Indian Constitution ... He has just raised his voice against the Current UPA Saltanat ...

As a Ex-service men he has more rights then me , you or any citizen of this country to raise his voice against things that r going wrong in this country ... & UPA in power is the biggest Disrespect to Parliament , Democracy & Indian Constitution itself...

A person who was ready to give life for his country & given more then 45 years of his life to country can question some Stupid politicians if they r not running the country properly

Salute to u Sir... u have rightly proved that once a soldier always a soldier ...

In a mature democracy like India, personally, i don't think its a good idea for a former Army chief to join politics. Anyway he was the most controversial Army chief ever in Indian military establishment.

Indian should discourage such initiative taken by former army chief even if its required or no one else can do the same what he can do. he has already discredited and dis-honored Army chief position during his last few months in office.

Gen VK Singh was THE man who had the spine to go against the Govt by not being the 'yes sir' man of the political babus. And remember... he refused to take a bribe of 14 crore[140 MILLION]!! Not only that, he blew the lid of one of the most corrupt scandals in India..Tatra truck deal! He was and is a person of great stature. Therefore, he made these comments AFTER retiring. Once he is off the office, he is fully authorized to make use of his basic constitutional right i.e., freedom of speech! In what way does it account to 'discredting and dis-honouring' the army chief position?

He talked about scandals only after the age related dispute..Why didn't he open his mouth the moment he was made aware of the supposed scandals,or when he was offered bribe?

Go & read the news he didnt speak out in public or in media he wrote it directly to defence ministry ... & later a enquiry was done on this issue which showed some women working in MOD has leaked his written letter to the media...

India missed the bus for a long time when this Rajput Gen didn't take over. That would have saved India and ordinary Indians from the corporations the general talks about. With him in power in India - while still in uniform, SA would have seen peace and prosperity, and respite from the political vultures.

this general has lost it's mind. There are some lines which should never be crossed in a democracy. Dissolution of parliament on whims of someone is one of them.

a single marshall law can break india into several pieces.

Go pass Kindergarten exams first kid !!

First reddened statement is inaccurate, the second is plain wrong.

The armed forces swear to uphold the CONSTITUTION of India - and by extension, the democratic charter of the country, by virtue of which elected people make laws, courts implement them, police forces ensure that these work correctly, and armed forces prevent the collapse of the Indian state, whether through foreign aggression or domestic insurrection. The army in no way has any mandate to ask for the dissolution of an elected govt - only the electorate does. The army's job is to ensure that nothing can dismantle the Indian state. A private citizen (like VKS in this case) has every right to criticize the govt, but not with the weight of the army chief's office behind him.

The second statement is wrong, and horribly so. Armed forces people or ex servicepeople (or anybody else) don't have any MORE right than you or me to criticize the govt. That right is available IN FULL to every indian citizen. Nobody is special. Even the president is regarded, NOT as the first citizen of the country like in some countries, but as THE FIRST AMONG EQUALS.

Freedom of speech, expression, right to criticize the govt etc exists for everyone equally, whether to president or pauper, whether to rich or poor. It would be a sad day when people in powerful positions have more rights than others - no they don't. The very idea of a modern day nation state was to bring about this equality, where rights and liberties extend to everybody, and not just to those in power. These ideas formed over centuries, when people realized that kings didn't have divine rights, that aristocrats and nobles shouldn't have any more rights than serfs or peasants.

And don't be silly mate- the IA has an oath to protec the government and elected officials- the question of a coup is proposterous in India.

Yaar...I was kidding. And anyways, this VK Singh had already violated many an oath and pledged
his way down the corruption line. The lust of money could have made him drive tanks into 10 Janpat.

I know from experience how the army recruiters filter out potential ambitious ones from selection in the SSB. The ones who are selected are bound to be servile to the political masters. No wonder there won't be a coup in India. But Gen V.K.Singh deserves thanks from every citizen of India. Had he said this while in service, it would have been quite a spectacle.

Criticizing government constitutional right, not a problem in it.

These kind guys think any body who has not offered any bribe or taken any bribe are eligible to IAC and can stop govt. from functioning smoothly. A person needs much more to make a vast country free of corruption a simple law like "LOKPAL" will never achieve it, at the same time this law will block Govt. from functioning properly and it will become a loop hole for any external power to destabilize India and block its development.

Is this VK singh assuming that the new Govt. elected after dissolving current Govt. will be corruption free??

And is he assuming that People of India vote for honest people if current Govt. is dissolved??

The best thing he can do is to spread awareness and let people elect the honest leaders, Corruption has more to do with people's thinking, Governance.

These guys are doing bad than good with these rants.

No need to demonize the current legitimate Govt. and stop the current Govt. from running smoothly. India do not need a weak, unstable and confused Govt.

Corruption is there right after 1947 onwards and it is not new for India.

India needs at least a decade of political stability to get stronger and prosper.

Alternately if He is seeking attention, the move worked.

i am sorry mate you are wrong . he gave an interview to a rajastani daily saying he was offered a bribe, he never wrote to the defense minister about this alleged bribe. he just had a conversation with Anthony . who when asked ,said that the general did not want any action against the one offering him a bribe.
you are entitled to hero worship him but he was one of the COAS who was only interested in himself .he brought up the age issue and when he lost that in the supreme court , he portrayed him self as a anti corruption crusader.

wait a few months this guy will join politics.

Why didn't he do himself while he was in power? Could have made history tehn, now only making fun of himself.:hitwall:

MUMBAI: In a stinging attack on the government, former Army chief General VK Singh, who has joined Anna Hazare in his crusade against corruption, on Monday termed it "anti-people" and demanded immediate dissolution of parliament.

Gen (retd) Singh said the government is "bending to the corporates".

In a direct attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, VK Singh asked him why the government was "looting" people. Singh retired a few months ago.

Gen Singh was speaking to media persons alongside Hazare, who is expected soon to launch an anti-graft team after severing ties with Arvind Kejriwal and India Against Corruption (IAC) over their decision to form a political party.

Because India is NOT Pakistan-a coup has not happened or even been close to happening in the entire history of modern India. The Indian military is expected to be completly apolitical and if he had made such remarks whilst serving there would have been outrage and he probably would have lost his job. It might be hard for a Pakistani to comprehend but India is a democracy where the military answers to the elected civlians.
