BJP needs to keep defense spending low for a couple of years so money can be funneled in the economy.
This is because Congress left not only the treasury empty but also a broken economy.

Once the economy starts galloping and immediate issues are sorted out, defense spending should rise.


There is another aspect, if economy is not right, BJP wont get elected again and neither will we have money for the future.

This is a very fair assessment of the BJP's priorities and a legitimate rebuttal to the "raise defence spending now" brigade. Without the economy you have nothing. As the economy grows naturally so will defence spending.

I am just saying that, as a party that proclaims national security as high on its agenda, the area of defence MUST be an area that the GoI devotes a lot more attention and funds AT SOME POINT in the near future. This isn't an area that can be neglected for another decade, the situation is already bad enough and the economic prosperity and a credible military go hand in hand.
