Foreign military attaches are briefed about participation in global arms control
The Foreign Affairs Office (FAO) of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People’s Republic of China held a conference in Beijing on the morning of June 22 to introduce China’s participation in international arms control to foreign military attaches to China. A total of 69 military attaches from 55 countries were present at the conference.
The conference was chaired by Senior Colonel Geng Yansheng, director of the Information Affairs Bureau of the FAO of the MND. Cheng Jingye, director of the Department of Arms Control, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, briefed the military attaches about China’s participation in international arms control and answered questions raised by them.
Cheng Jingye firstly gave a briefing about the general situation of global security, arms control and anti-proliferation and then made detailed explanations on some key issues in the present arms control and nonproliferation field including nuclear disarmament, nuclear non-proliferation, anti-guided missile system and keeping outer-space weapon free, and the efforts China has made in this regard.
On behalf of foreign military attaches to China, Brigadier Antonio Grieco, the Italian military attaché, thanked Cheng Jingye for his briefing and said that they had a better understanding of the positive role played by China in international arms control in recent years and the efforts made by China in maintaining world and regional peace and stability.
The information briefings given in a planned way every year by the FAO of the MND of the People’s Republic of China on related issues of China’s armed forces and national defense are commonly recognized by and popular with the foreign military attaches to China.
