No overestimation here, Iraq and Afghanistan were militarily defeated in a couple of weeks each and became insurgencies for the remainder. I give India 4-6 months of holding out if such a conflict ever occurred and this time Russia would not come running.

So there is already a natural, undeclared alliance of PAKISTAN,CHINA,SRILANKA against india, and India is loosing its influence in bangladesh and nepal, its very soon to say that they wont join that alliance ..

I'm guessing that the writer was pointing at China, not the US, as the extra-territorial nation, kind of like an anti-China bloc. The only problem is that it can never happen. China has been pouring in millions into these South Asian countries and no one's going to say no to that for anyone's sake.

Additionally, only a few countries in the region see Chinese presence as a challenge.

In the end, it's just an opinion and seems to be one of those that the Indian government won't be too eager to embrace as a policy.

Pakistan will, join in a strategic pact with China,sooner or later, landlocking India and its 'big boy' designs for good. The very narrative that, 'smaller' countries unable to defend themselves doesn't apply to Pakistan.

India itself is the biggest 'extra territorial' threat to us, which we are more than capable and willing to fight off. India should stop 'day dreaming' about seducing Pakistan just because we are 'small' compared to India.
