Footage emerges said to be of President Rajapakse fleeing Sri Lanka aboard a Navy Vessel after protestors storm his residence

Loans didn’t cause this. Corruption and mismanagement did. People took their country back from the corrupt. Only difference is that it was not initiated by west , otherwise western media would be all over it.

Just enjoy the Indian posts in this thread. They are desperately trying to turn this into an anti-China thread -- as if China forced these rulers to be corrupt.

If a traffic jam happens in Mumbai, it's Pakistan's fault.
If a corrupt third worlder steals from his people, it's China's fault.

We see corruption in every country including Canada. If you want to argue that it is the degree of corruption then most developing countries are at the same ballpark. We don't see the crisis in Sri Lanka anywhere else. Sri Lankans are not able to service their debt because they kept borrowing like there was no tomorrow. Never stopped to think about interest :disagree:

Mismanagement leads to loans and BoP crisis. Global economic climate was merely the catalyst :coffee:

This has been fuelled by the recent decision to ban all chemical fertilizers in a country which was self sufficient in food. The rice yield plummeted and they know rely on imports they cannot afford. Meanwhile the green agenda in the UK and Europe marches on.

Do these protesters have a leader? Do they have a plan to get SriLanka out of this mess? And suppose they can't and SriLanka further goes down the drain, is such a revolution worth it?

Seems like chaos will be the new norm for countries like us.
People wanted all Rajapakshas to resign, but this one wouldn't budge. Maybe it wouldn't happen if he resigned before.

They literally voted for them.

Now they want to blame them when the policies they explicitly voted for have bankrupted the country.

Democracy in action.

The problem is that they subsidized import consumption with european and japanese loans.

The attempt to pin that on china is hilarious and shows you immediately who the propagandists are.

Sri Lanka's decision to ban artificial fertilizers was at least partially motivated by lack of $ to buy fertilizers from outside. The government marketed that as go green initiative and it backfired even more

Sri Lanka's decision to ban artificial fertilizers

And the crook Vandana Shiva who cheerled the whole process is nowhere to be seen

This is worrying. It's only in SriLanka for now. But it could start anywhere in the world, considering today's situation in any nation. The world has become very volatile now, because of our stupid politicians.

Sri Lanka situation is still far off. The day people won't get any petrol is the day of the apocalypse.

The people of any country will only put up with the sht for so long.

All gobbledygook socioeconomic theories can be put to test if populist politicians are elected by people. Result will be the Sri Lanka type crisis :agree:
