We see corruption in every country including Canada. If you want to argue that it is the degree of corruption then most developing countries are at the same ballpark. We don't see the crisis in Sri Lanka anywhere else. Sri Lankans are not able to service their debt because they kept borrowing like there was no tomorrow. Never stopped to think about interest

Sri Lanka's decision to ban artificial fertilizers was at least partially motivated by lack of $ to buy fertilizers from outside. The government marketed that as go green initiative and it backfired even more
