FM Qureshi presents constitutional amendment bill for creating South Punjab

You want to divided KP which doesn't have a demand for it and not divide Punjab which wants to be divided? I thought you cared for South Punjab but looks like you don't.

Why don't you jump in and give PTI government a hand in better governance? You know they are sincere in helping South Punjab as Usman Buzdar despite opposition is given a chance to improve South Punjab and direct funds towards the region that needs it the most. When there's honesty of intention, Help of Allah will be with them as well.

Have faith. May be offer your help or prayers at least so they may succeed. Can you?

If the sole purpose of exercise is lessening the administrative burden for good governance why can't there be Hazara province, Khyber province and Pakhtunkhwa province?

Governments are constitutionally obligated to restore parity between developed and underdeveloped communities and areas.

Let me put it this way, you have faith in the principle, you have a United front apparently for the position, all i am asking is discipline of process and procedure.

Great move. It ticks all the boxes. Punjab is simply too large. With a population of over 100 million and making almost 52% of Pakistan it actually is larger then almost every European country and nearly as populous as Russia.

It is at least 3/4 times larger in population then the next two provinces - Khyber Pakhtunkwa and Sindh. Ideally it needs to be whittled down to three pieces with -

  • North Punjab - Potohar
  • Punjab
  • South Punjab

Not only will it stabile the federation but it makes administrative sense. In addition this is oft repeated demand of the Seraiki region. Finally it also as has been mentioned tickles the PTI support base of SMQ and even better cuts the PML-N dominated Lahore down to size.

Win win !

If the sole purpose of exercise is lessening the administrative burden for good governance why can't there be Hazara province, Khyber province and Pakhtunkhwa province?
So you find the 'weight' of a province with 30 million plus too much but overlook the behemoth of over 100 million Punjab? Even after slicing Punjab the two pieces will still be larger then KPK or any other province in Pakistan.

Discipline and rule will be followed. It has to be to become a constitutional binding. Give us an answer. Do you principally advocate division of Punjab or not?

You started with negative "Brahmos landed in South Punjab and nonone cared" statement. Felt like you are sensitive towards it and want to offer its people a relief, but then your "look elsewheres" and follow rules **** have started. Are you for it or against it? Have a standing. So?

  • North Punjab - Potohar
  • Punjab
  • South Punjab

Punjab
South Punjab
And Bahawalpur province.

SP and Bahawalpur province bill are already passed by Punjab Provincial assembly. But currently state is only interested in splitting Punjab into two. No one is demanding Bahawalpur province so there won't be one.

Before it was KP FATA merge (3 years ago). Now is the time for SP Province. I hope around 2027 we also split Baluchistan into two. We can not hold back these things for Sindh's consent. We should move ahead and bring reforms in all other provinces this way Sindh will have no ethical backing for any resistance to split when almost all of the provinces would have already seen splits.

I principally agree with imperative needs for smaller administrative units in the country.

I principally disagree with any such notion that includes words like division or partition of a selected province.

Are they dominating Pakistani polity like Punjab?

Is this some form of gerrymandering to create a province out of areas that have more PTI support? :undecided:

I am now confused if this is a Trump Card or Parting Shot.

You got to start cutting the cake somewhere with hope that other manageable pieces will be made next.

ISLAMABAD:
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday presented a constitutional amendment bill to National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser with regards to creating South Punjab as the fifth province of Pakistan by splitting the pre-existing province into two.

FM Qureshi maintained that he had presented the bill on Prime Minister Imran Khan’s order and that the establishment of South Punjab as a province was part of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s election manifesto.

At the request of Qureshi, the speaker decided to make the bill a part of the house’s agenda for Monday, March 28. “Today we have fulfilled another promise made to the people of South Punjab”, Qureshi said.
Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri was also present at the occasion.

Earlier this week, the incumbent government circulated a summary for the cabinet’s approval to amend the Constitution in order to split the Punjab province and create a fifth province of Pakistan amid serious political crisis and questions over its majority in the National Assembly.

The South Punjab province – proposed to comprise of three divisions – will have 56 seats of the National Assembly and the new provincial assembly will have 119 seats, according to the draft bill moved to create the fifth province of Pakistan.

The Ministry of Law and Justice on Thursday circulated the Constitution Amendment Bill 2022 for the approval of the federal cabinet for the creation of a separate new province comprising Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions called South Punjab, according to the cabinet’s summary.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has chosen to seek the cabinet’s nod through circulation instead of bringing the summary in the regular cabinet meeting for discussion and then approval.

Baluchistan should be split into 4 provinces.

Lol, constitutional amendment when you don’t even have a viable minority. Good one FM.

Ps, I’m pro devolution, but this is a lame stunt

Split country into 33 administrative units for better management but they have to get rid of 18 amendment.

We should learn from Turkey and Iran. They have smaller populations but have more administrative units for management whilst we have Punjab with 80million+ people managed by one CM. I would say make every City in to a administrative unit, then people should directly elect governor to manage it with his team, also elect all mayors for local administrative units.

The reason for every city as province is so we don't make provinces based on ethnicities etc. I strongly disagree with proposals like Muhajar province, Saraiki, Kashmiri province. This causes more division in a negative way. We already have 60+ cities, why not make all of them in to provinces. Let them directly elect a Governor, mayor etc. End of story.
