Fix the Link to Pakistan, Bond With India

. . . . . . .
How can you give part of Kashmir away on a silver platter and then ask to solve the dispute? What was bilateral before the give away of Shaksgam Valley, is now a trilateral dispute between India, pakistan and China.

Excuse me prove your allegation and refrain from propaganda. Pakistan never gave that territory to China instead settled the dispute like mature ones should do.

Err...that's because you don't understand the strategy. India doesn't believe that the U.S. will really succeed (in case it does, that's a bonus) in getting Pakistan to completely clamp down, however it gives India ample reasoning to keep ties with Pakistan on the back burner & pretty much get no push from anyone else who will first have to deal with "cross-border terrorism" issue...... Pakistan's cross border incursions help more than they hurt, Pakistan's case is pretty much an international no-touch issue. No one is interested,

The strategy works & very well.
Ah ! you misjudged Pakistan , Like every other Aristocratic state Pakistan's establishment follow suicidal based policy , until their allies are with them they can continue to pose threat to their hostile nations. such International no touch don't works in case of Pakistan. well , I have observed that USA is only country to deal such Aristocratic states effectively but they prefer their own national interest and militancy in india or border incursions are india's internal issues. USA will always handle you guys diplomatically, because US understands the importance of aristocratic regional powers better then you.

Not exactly, China had initially claimed Shaksgam Valley part of China's Xinjiang territory, whereas Ayub Khan had to send a letter to dispute those claims never to be replied to. pakistan further bent backwards by voting China into the UNSC. The outcome was that pakistan had to withdraw 2,050 sq miles of territory whereas China only had to withdraw 750 sq miles.

Not only did pakistan hand Shaksgam Valley over to China, you also voted them into the UNSC as a goody bag

Btw the territory of the Princely State of Jammu & Kashmir always consisted of Shaksgam Valley

China fought against Vietnam in 1979 over 10000 Chinese killed but the didn't hide the 1979 war for the world to know, why would China need to hide a Sikkim war if it ever happen. Skirmished not that significant for the world to notice.

Of course it isn't significant in your "little red book", you lost territory and lost more soldiers

Michael Kugelman has written article as if US interest is subservient to India's.

There are certain fundamental weak arguments here. Like this one

First, America should stop giving free passes to the Pakistani military, which receives billions of dollars’ worth of aid even as it sponsors militant groups that murder Indians. An American law requires that the government, before releasing security assistance, certify that Pakistan’s armed forces have acted to stop Pakistan-based militants, including anti-India groups. But in recent years, the Obama administration has invoked national security waivers that bypass the certification process. That should stop.

That 'free pass' is not for India. And US must not be seen as putting curbs on Pakistan military to please India. If it wants to do it, it will be seen as playing India's game in the region. The first misstep of the delicate dance the author refers to.

The argument that Pakistan has bellicose stance against India is also rubbish. Its India that has been strident in its approach towards Pakistan and finds excuses to run away from negotiations. Its India that has been firing at the borders both settled and line of control.

As for terrorism, India only wants this issue as a talking point, an excuse to malign Pakistan not seriously resolve it.

Sadly Michael has lost his balance and the article seems to be written for Indian audience for a feel good and nothing else.
